After the Boeing order ( Gulf Air Agree To 16 + 8 Boeing 787s (by PanAm_DC10 Jan 12 2008 in Civil Aviation) ) Gulf Air announced that it will also award Airbus with an order for eight A320's.

MANAMA, Jan 13 - Airbus won an initial order from Bahrain's Gulf Air for eight of its A320 single-aisle aircraft, Gulf Air said on Sunday.

The two sides may reach final agreement on the planned purchase by the end of March, Gulf Air Chairman Mahmood al-Kooheji told reporters in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

Now this is a good order coz they need and it will benefit GF a lot. Let’s hope they order some wide bodies to be delivered before 2016 when the B787 will be arriving. GF really need something to be delivered in the next tow years.

The B-787 deliveries begin in 2016. It seems to me, tha A-320 line is full, too. So when will these airplanes be delivered?

Great to see GF ordering brand new planes however I don´t see how these aircraft will be operated profitaby given:

1) Management problems haven´t gone away, executive position turnover is still very high!
2) The pull out of Oman from Gulf Air means GF will have to rely on Bahrain traffic exclusively.
3) Emergence of a second Bahrain airline (Bahrain Air) with proposed routes to Beirut, Doha, etc. will pose even more threats to GF.

Anyone concur with my reservations?
