Yeah, given NK's extensive international network, why not just go back to a straight LCC concept, raise fares slightly, and improve the customer service rating? And go back to having a Business Class product.

That sounds very like a Legacy type model to me, NOT an LCC model. Do remember that LCC is Low Cost Carrier, and of course this does not necessarily parallel Low Fares or Good Value.

Brian.

Next flights: MAN-ORK-LHR(EI)-MAN(BD); MAN-LHR(BD)-ORK (EI); DUB-ZRH-LAX (LX) LAX-YYZ (AC) YYZ-YHZ-LHR(AC)-DUB(BD)

AirTran would disagree. Spirit is trying to use a European ULCC model and it's just an embarassment. Spirit used to have good service, a Business Class, low fares and no extra charges. Now they have bad service, a "Big Front Seat" without Business Class service, the same fares, and a bunch of extra charges.

My thoughts as a frequent traveler and travel agent.

As a travel agent we will not recommend Spirit due to their "ULCC" model. We used to have a great working relationship with them but the recent changes such as the baggage fees, payment for seat assignments of any kind, no representation in the GDS, lack of business class etc have caused us to sever most of our ties.

As a frequent traveler, BRING SPIRIT PLUS BACK, PLEASE!!!!!! I used to travel all the time with Spirit between Las Vegas, Detroit, Atlantic City, and Myrtle Beach. The new changes at Spirit including "El Cheap Fibbonacci" and the other stupid marketing tricks are so unappealing I simply can't bring myself to fly them anymore.

My two cents.

Look at their prices, and you'll see that there's really no fare difference between NK and the legacies, at least where they compete directly. For example FLL-DTW. Fares match NW, yet the customers pay more when using a so called ULCC. Aside from a handful of $9 fares (which you have to pay just to get e-mailed to you), they are NOT a ULCC.

They've pretty much got the costs sunk already with things like "a big front seat" and I assume all kinds of accounting software and procedures to track the fees for extra (which wouldn't surprise me if they were more costly than the fees they get from them)--nevermind the expensive hub network at a congested airport. All they'd have to do is cater for business class and be a little nicer really and that usually doesn't cost much Silly

For example FLL-DTW.

We just flew DTW-FLL and back on Spirit in December because it was almost $200 cheaper than any other carrier on this route. My family is pretty loyal to NW, but I couldn't care less usually who I fly with. However I doubt I will fly Spirit again. This is not to say it was completely awful, just that I did not enjoy myself as much as most other carriers I have flown with. Among other things, of course.

NK could be a serious player in the American domestic market with that hub at FLL and the growing Latin American network if they would go back to their pre-ULCC ways with Spirit Plus (Business Class) and good service. The ULCC format + the intl network just seems contradictory to me. Spirit's raking in the cash I'm sure, but they could be so much more if they were focused on delivering a superior product.

Any thoughts??

....well considering I flew them to ACY from FLL (avoided a connection) in November and paid 10.00 per bag and both of my bags never made the flight (they came in later in the day on the evening flight) and Spirit wouldn't even refund my money for the hassle (they claimed I got them same day)... never again!!! That was the final nail in the coffin. Not the airline I used to fly in the mid-late 90's!!!!

What an embarrassment to my hometown!!!!

BTW, I ended up paying 10.00 because the purchase online feature was never available (kept getting a message saying prepurchasing of bags in not available for my flight). When I called them, the agent (whom I had to speak Spanish to because her English was horrible) told me it happens sometimes and that she put a note in my PNR. Well once at the airport, there was no note in the PNR! BTW, I paid 125.00 each way to ACY. Not that cheap! and the service! Agh!
