Mid January is here and we were told that Skyteam would be moving to T2 these days. Anyone knows if that will be the case? I'm eager to see the alleviating effects at MEX.

AM is moving tomorrow, January 15. I am not sure if CM, CO and LA will also move tomorrow or if they will move later.

Be advised that not all SkyTeam will move to T2. AF, KL and, apparently, NW will stay in T1. For the time being, the only tennants of T2 will be AM, DL (moved in December), CO, CM, LA (which is not in SkyTeam but has nonetheless a comprehensive codeshare and mileage agreement with AM) and VW (moved in December).

I am really looking forward to AM being on T2... their once legendary on-time performance is now a very embarrassing record of delays.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

do u guys know what will happen then with all the space left on T1 ??? Will MX get more space to expand and fix also all their connections to make them better??

I heard AM invest 20 million usd to move to T2, what is MX doing to expand inside T1 for the empty space?

I'm wondering that myself. Also, will Volaris and Interjet land at MEX? Will Aviacsa and Aerocalifornia get more jetways rather than remote positions?

AM and other airlines must have moved to T2 by now. Anyone know how is the process going?

MEX will open to all mexican airlines. AICM will offer and give slot preference to all airlines flying in MEX to take them and will with them a few months to use them... in net growth in fleets for MX, QA and 6A is coming real soon, MX is taking delivery of more new A319/320s, QA is taking 8 Fk100 and 6A just taken 7 B737s plus 2 or 3 more due in March 08. The rest of the slots will be offered to all new carriers. If they want to enter MEX and fly during the night they will be able to do it real soon. It will be up to them and their business plan to enter MEX or not to.

Great. Some spotting is in order!

Seeing that T2 will handle 43% of the current operations, I guess we can expect a 40 something or even 50% passenger growth in the short term.

It went smoothly for the most part according to El Universal (sorry, the note was in the first page but I can't find it anymore).

Wouldn't opening MEX to LCCs mean turning the back to TLC?

Here is one of the articles in El Universal.

Quote:

Quick Translation:

Anger and confusion among passengers ( nothing to be surprised about) due to the lack of information. Very early in the morning passengers arrived to the former (CO,LA,AM & CM) check in counters but because of the lack of information some lost their flights.

The train between terminals ended up being insufficient ( duh...). The airport administration decided to put buses between the terminals to help transport the large quantity of passengers changing terminals.

Aeromexico hasn't shown delays in arrivals or departures while changing terminals. Taking into account Aeromexico is the largest airline in the new terminal.

Continental Airlines will change soon.

So let's see what's the ending for this change being performed today. It will be interesting to watch out how operations flow in the next two weeks when hopefully everyone gets used to this changes.

Cheers!

An article -also in Spanish- can also be found at http://mx.invertia.com

I really don't sympathize with the people who were supposed to fly today with AM and arrived at T1. AM has done a lot of noise to promote its move to T2. Besides, it has been all over the news. If someone who can afford to travel does not care to call the airline to confirm their flights/seats, watch the news or read the newspaper, they are not entitled to complain about stuff like this. Everybody knew about AM's move to T2 during January. Done with my ranting.

Everybody? It is clear that the passengers how arrived at terminal 1 today, did not. I don't think that they knew and wanted go through that nightmare and lose their flights. I agree with you that AM and the media has been doing some noise, but not everyone pays attention to that.

Another thing, I can afford to fly and I do it really often and I never call the airline to confirm my flight / seat, I don't know about the rest of the people in this forum.

Don't want to confront you, but the people who are not into aviation as us, just don't care and I understand them. I think it was AM's duty to contact them and let them know about checking at T2. I am not saying that they didn’t, but evidently not to everyone.

As I stated before, i am not looking for a confrontation.

Best Regards,

Only a.nutters knew about this change! And many few despite the big ads on newspaper such as Reforma which gets around on sundays at home, El Financiero and El Economista (that's what i have at school, don't know rest of newspapers) plus some more ads on TV... but seriously we're the only stupid guys reading those news (some keeping them for historic reasons) and watching those TV ads on and on and we never get tired... i can ask my girlfriend today if she saw by chance or has read anything about MEX's T2 somewhere and i'm so sure she'll get back to me with a "no, tell me and explain me what's that thing called T2" or maybe a brief "is that were MX arrives now?" .
