I am flying to JFK tomorrow on Delta arriving at 1630hrs EST. Should I count on being stuck in ATL, due to the weather in NY? How do these delays work? Should I be worried about not making it? Opinions please?

Plan on a trouble free connection and on time arrival. If the arrival rate at JFK tanks, I'm confident Delta will delay and/or combine flights and do what they can to get you there.

Weather is beyond their/your control. If it goes bad, just sit back and watch all of the mad people making asses of themselves screaming at the gat agents who also have no control over the weather.

I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

You should be fine. They blew the forecast and we got much less snow then they thought.

The southeast is getting some much needed rain but the Weather God's are throwing in some fun cold air to go with it....especially west of the I95 corridor later on.

DL has already published the 'I forgive the fare change' memo....

And the NWS at Peachtree just released this for ATL
"Statement as of 11:17 AM EST on January 16, 2008
... A wintry mix of precipitation is possible across north Georgia
this afternoon through early Thursday...

It never snows or ices in ATL when they predict it.

I am working in Peachtree City GA as we speak, and big white flakes are coming down...this should be interesting. I would say any aircraft in the DL system for the next 24 hours is subject to issues.

Temps will be above freezing for the city and south this evening then it will change over to rain. Im going out for my birthday dinner in midtown this evening, so mother nature better not spoil my party.

its going to be close though... Atlanta (city) is showing rain, but the northern suburbs where i am (near PDK) they are calling for ice

Now
At 305 PM EST...National Weather Service radar indicated widespread sleet mixed with snow across north Georgia. Movement is to the north...northeast at 30 mph. A band of moderate snow was draped from La Grange to Griffin. Through 400 PM EST...light snow mixed with sleet will move across the Atlanta...Athens...and Rome areas. Accumulations will be light...with just a dusting expected in most places through 500 PM EST. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution.

uhmm.. all 3 gives you water.. which is what Atlanta needs right now.. and at least with snow/sleet/ice.. you get to actually collect the water and not have it running out all over the place.. I think ATL should be happy if someone spits on the ground at this point.. it might be messy, but ya'll need it and should be happy for it any way you can get it.. be real now!
