A few questions about this new service that starts in March. Will Continental be making proving flights for this route? If yes, does anybody know when? How many captains and FO's will be required for this service? Is there any crew rest areas on the 777? Thanks.

I don't think they've got any plans to do proving flights for the flight CO99. It's gonna really be a national joke for them if they cannot make it EWR-HKG on the 777 (although unlikely) but I'm really eager to know whether UA succeeds JFK-HKG in their 747... Big grin

There will be at least one relief pilot on the flight. There is a two bed rest area located just behind the cockpit.

CO already performed proving flights last year. The United flight JFK-HKG has already been downgraded to a 777 before it started.

Mitchell,

What's your source? SABRE is still showing UA821 JFK-HKG operating as a 744 all the way through the end of availability. UA801, however, their JFK-NRT nonstop, has indeed downgraded to a 777 on April 1, the day the new JFK-HKG service starts.
