Where have all the a342s gone? I remember Lufthansa flying them for a short while. Are they just not economical for a plane that can carry a limited max. # of pax? I dont know. I was not able to reply to previous topics so im starting a new one for me and for other A342 fans.

Pretty much. She's squeezed between the better economics of the A330-200 and the better capacity of the A340-300.

Lufthansa's went to South African
And really the A340-300E/X killed the -200. Same range as the -200 with more payload. The -200 is just a short bodied -300 now, so no real purpose to it.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
There are a few VIP/Gov operators. Qatar Amiri Flight, Gov of Egypt, Saudi Royal Flight, The French Air Force (This may be a 213X). The Kingodn of Jordan has one that is being replaced by a different 340 any day now.

Well, I'd say about ten years isn't exactly a short period.

The A342 is still an economical aircraft with a rather low fuel burn. But of course, for most routes, the A332 is enough. However, on longer flights, the A342 can make money.

There's also the A340-213(X), which has the same MTOW as the -300X, and thus can fly longer legs.
Quoting YOWza (Reply 5): I believe SA, RJ, AR, MS and UX are still operating the 200.
IIRC UX got rid of it (them?). Conviasa has got one.

Air Mauritius?
I think they only have 300s.

Add Brunei's Sultan's Flight to the list. The French AF examples are -211s.

The only airlines to take delivery of -200s in 1993 (IIRC) were AF and LH. I also remember SN having them shortly after but I'm positive they were leased from AF.

Afriqiyah
SAA
Saudi MOD
French AF
Egyptair
Royal Jordanian
Qatar Amiri
Conviasa
Egyptian Government
Aerolineas Argentinas
Kingdom Holding

AOM
Cathay Pacific

Thos are mostly privately/government owned aircraft. How many A342's were developed and put into the market? How many are parked?
I've noticed a decline in the pics on a.net of A340's as well. Are they slowly fading away and no one is noticing?
Finally, how many A343's does VS still have compared to the max number they had at one time? Seems like I never see any pics of them, only the A346's now.
No, but I remember Brunei Sultan's flight 2nd A342 was a -200X and I seem to remember they sold it.. someone has any news on this airframe?

They still have 6:
3 -300s (2nd and 3rd A340 ever built included)
3 -300X
They had 4 more -300s, 2 are with Air Comet, 1 with Finnair and 1 is goin to Iberia (I think this one is the one that had a tail strike and was then flying with BWIA... wasn't it supposed to be the 1st A340 to be scrapped? I'm sure glad this shouldn't happen)
