Saw this snippet in the news section; it's not going to go down very well with the environmental lobby.

The BAA is looking at a FOURTH runway and a SEVENTH terminal for LHR; the sixth terminal will be built to serve the new runway, although I haven't seen any formal design or planning submission for it.

I don't know if this is a smart move to postulate a 4th runway and a 7th terminal well before any definite decisions have been made to build a 3rd runway.
Personally I see this move playing into the hands of the opponents of runway #3 and the terminal building that is supposed to come with it.
With all due respect and also while realizing the big need for LHR's expansion: I have only limited hopes that the 3rd runway will be built - and actually have no hopes that a 4th runway will ever be built at LHR outside the current airport perimeter. Demolishing thousands of homes and relocating all the people living in them is a major emotional factor here.
And I have to say: If an expansion of an airport has that a big effect onto that many people that used to live nearby an airport, I am inclined to oppose that expansion.
Of all the airports serving London (disregarding LCY), LHR is in the least favourable situation to add runway capacity IMO.

Even though the additional capacity would be not too big, I still am in favour of building a narrow-spaced runway about 1200-1500 ft south of 09R/27L:
Cargo centers would have to be pushed a bit further south and also the fate to T4 could be discussed --> to be replaced by a new terminal pushed a bit to the south with a East-West orientation, once the central terminal area has been remodelled ("Heathrow East").
