Ok I was surprised at what happened to the previous thread so here are the updates with the original news.

Singapore closed its commercial airspace for almost an hour on Tuesday as fighter jets scrambled to intercept a small plane headed towards the city-state without permission.

The Defence Ministry said two Republic of Singapore Air Force planes took off around 6:45 p.m. local time to intercept a single-engine turboprop Cessna 208 and escort it to land at the Changi Airport.

The airspace closure affected 23 flights and aviation officials estimates losses to me in the thousands. One flight had to land at Senai Airport after it ran low on fuel.

The Cessna C208 Amphibious Caravan has just been bought from an airline operating in Koh Sumui and only had 2 pilots on board at the time of the incident.

Enough spoken here are the links to the news.

New update on the Intruder aircraft. It is said that the intruder aircraft was ok a test flight from Koh Samui when it strayed into Singapore airspace.

There was a forum letter about the interception.

Couldn't intruder plane have landed at Seletar?
On tuesday Singapore's airspace was infiltrated by a civilian Cessna 208. It was escorted by two of our fighter jets to land at Changi, causing our international airport to be closed to close to an hour. Why was it necessary for the small plane to lane at Changi? We have another civilian airport at Seletar, and military airbases that could have been used to avoid causing disruption, or alarm to passengers.

As far as I know, airbases in this situation is a big no-no. And the nearest airport for the plane to land is Changi and I think we wouldn't want the plane to flyover Singapore to land at Seletar in case the plane was laden with explosives.

Quoting Herman (Reply 1):

No Cessna 208s with a registration of VH-R?? in the CASA database.

I would laugh if it was Dick Smith, he had a C208 at one stage....and known for his "weird" views on airspace reform...

Latest update. The probe deepens as to why the plane strayed when its supposed to be only flying around Koh Sumui for 50mins but ended up flying to Singapore.

Background checks on the pilots also have been made. It has been revealed that one of the pilots and his former colleague was arrested once for flying a falsely registered plane.
