I have been advised that SA are to sell Boeing 743 ZS-SAJ "Ndizani" for scrap. Reason I know is that I put a proposal to SA to purchase the fuselage for conversion into a guest lodge similar to the Jumbo Lodge (just a bit more up-market than Jumbo) and was told that the a/c was to go out on tender to be sold off in 3 parts: Interior fixtures & fittings, undercarriage and stripped fuselage (Engines have already been removed). Apparently tender notices will appear in the local Sunday press within a couple of weeks.
Can anyone give me some idea of what a stripped down 743 fuselage would be worth? I am very keen to put in a bid as i would very much like to preserve 1) the incredible paint job and 2) a liitle bit of both SA's and our country's heritage.
Any info would be appreciated.

That is tragic -- Ndizani has one of the most incredible liveries to have graced the skies, and was a symbol of what our country is and can be! SAA should be castigated for scrapping her!

At least I will get to see that gorgeous livery each time I look at my desk ...

The 'Lizzard' had been standing there on the taxiway for ages, and then towed and left outside Denel for years. It was only a matter of time before it became beer tins...

Perhaps, but I think most would settle now for electricity  bomb

I remember the controversy when she was painted ... and I have to admit that I agreed with the voices that said it was a waste of money ... etc. (in the days before the aviation bug really bit!)

Then, one morning on my way into work I saw her fly over N12/R22... she looked so beautful cutting through the blue highveld sky ... all my reservations took flight with Ndizani ...

The only other times I've seen her, she's been parked at JNB fading away in the sun ...

I agree that Ndzani was one of the best liveries ever to grace an aircraft. I´ve seen her at FRA several times and once at Jo´burg. Its sad that she will be dismantled, but actually I expected that. She´s stored since 3 or 4 years and one of the oldest 743s, and aircraft type not in hot demand anymore.
Sad only that they don´t fly here to Rand to meet her sisterships for second life at the museum. Probably its too expensive to maintain her gorgeous paint for a longer time.

Cost too much to get here airworthy enough for the flight, apart from the fact that engines have already been removed some time ago.

This is really sad. A classic going down the tubes. Well at least I will be able to enjoy my model of her and of course the trusty photo DB.
