Silverjet Considers Dubai (DXB) Franchise

Hey

'All business-class airline Silverjet is examining plans to establish a franchise based in Dubai, it has emerged.

Laurence Hunt, chief executive of the airline has said that the company was considering setting up a franchise to expands it's operations and add flights to destinations in Europe, the US and Asia.'

A genuine idea to move the airline forward or a cheap ploy to boost the airlines stock and raise funds?

An all business DXB-SIN would do great, but I'm not familiar with the 757 so i don't know if it can do it nonstop, but if it can I'm sure it would be a success.

DXB arguably has some of the best air links in the world on an airline that provides an excellent premium product and frequent schedules. I simply can't imagine Silverjet doing much to drive traffic away from EK (or Etihad at AUH).

To me this sounds more like and attempt to refill the kitty bank by Silverjet's as its current operation continues to loose money.

I'm wondering what routes they could fly. They won't have a vast network, and therefore won't have the connecting passengers that EK benefit from. Are there that many O&D routes from Dubai that could support an all-J aircraft?

Well if they do start operations from DXB theres gonna be alot of competition, but your right EK does serve a great product and offers great destinations. So I really dont know if this idea of theres will workout.

Well for starters, they use a 767. How wouold it be a success? They charge almost LOWER then the "Legacy" Carriers, and only flying at 100 seats. (This is assuming same type of operation).

Did you mean maxjet? Or did I re word your sentence wrong? The way you worded it sounded like you meant maxjet?

No definately meant Silverjet -- they continue to bleed money per their financial filings -- very much as MAXjet did and are likely again in the market again looking for another round of equity investment.

Btw recently an analyst came out with comment that Silverjet is "Doomed To Fail"

I'm sorry I got them confused with Eos for a minute. Thanks for the correction. There reason why I think it would be a success is because i'm pretty sure that that route is one of the most popular for business travelers, comon these are some of the richest countries were talking about and I'm guessing that roughly about 50-55% percent of travelers to both countries travel there for business, I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats the case.

This confuses me, why go up against EK as a start up?!? I can understand VA adding flights *if* they get more LHR slots, but that's from a strong home market.  confused

I see this as a hope to raise funds. Now JFK-LTN-DXB-India would have merit, but with EK flying JFK-DXB... what's the point? I just see any weak entrant getting steam rolled if they attempt the middle east market. That isn't a field for the faint of heart. If anyone were to start up, it would be a LCC.

This could just be a ploy to give the firms shares a boost, in my opinion Maxjet's failing has woke them up and they are getting desperate. They need to adapt their model before failure of face the consequences.

Thank you. Going head to head with a new route by a major will be tough.

As a side note, I'm LOVING seeing new airport pairs across the Atlantic!  hyper  I know many here are JFK-LHR or whatever... but seeing JFK-ORY or JFK-STN makes all the sense in the world to me. Yes, minor additions, but good healthy route additions. Now to get them profitable!

This is unlikely to happen and if it does go ahead and somehow gains market traction EK will move in to piss on the parade. This to me is a non-starter.

Well, good luck with that.

Forgot to mention that of course "Open Skies" is also planned to launch NYC-PAR flights as well, which adds even more pressure on L'Avion.
