Well it appears that the other thread is gone....or am I just so blond even a search didn't bring it up?
Anyway.......
I was just putting my dog outside before I get ready to head on out for the day, when I called her and it hit me.
My dog's name is Anzac.
Seeing as the two airlines are now "one" why not encapture the whole essence of the merger and rename Air New Zealand and Ansett Australia.......Air Anzac, Anzac Airways, Anzac Airlines or a variation thereof. I don't just mean the holding group, but the whole kit and caboodle.
Anzac really does encapture the whole spirit of Australian and New Zealand
co-operation, and to be honest, I don't think there would be one Aussie or Kiwi who could be negative about a name such as "Anzac" on the basis of national patriotism, because Anzac is a "brand" of patriotism which both country's share with the same amount of fervour.
Or would renaming the two airlines "Anzac" dishonour a symbol of Australia and New Zealand which really isn't for commercial gain.
Any thoughts guys and gals
Cheers
Scotty
P.S. Sorry if this particular name has been covered, but I am blaming it on being blonde. If this is the case, please just give me a slap before you hit the "Back" button on your browser

I don't really think that there is a better name for Air NZ than Air NZ. Both Ansett and Air New Zealand have a high brand recognition, which I don't think should be tampered with. Instead, I think the two airlines should retain their own names, but with 1 livery (the Air New Zealand one). All the commuter airlines should be given the name of their respective parent. In NZ we have Air NZ link, maybe the Australian ones could be called Ansett Link.

Actually Scotty I think registering the word "Anzac" as a commercial business name would be the stumbling block.
It's in the public domain and has significant emotional attachments.
Imagine the outcry from the RSL!!!
As a slogan eg, "Air XXXXX, The Anzac Airline" it may be ok.
A name incorporating "Southern Cross" would show common ties between Aus & NZ.
As for Tasman World Airways - now the Trans World nee Transcontinental & Western is no more, well it might work.

Well good to see that other people have thought the same way as I have (i.e. NZ Herald).
But I can see Bruce Ruxton on A Current Affair now chiding it.
Tasman Pacific in my mind is a name which means nothing to us in WA, SA, NT and QLD...seeing were are nowhere near the Tasman.
Southern Cross Airlines.....does Brian Grey still have the name for that? Or is it now available again as a business name? That would probably be the most appropriate name seeing as it covers all parts of both Australia and New Zealand...and also the Pacific.

Airmale
You obviously have no idea what ANZAC means to Aussies and Kiwi's.
ANZ is the name of a bank in Australia and New Zealand, so there is no way they would rename to only be confused with another conglomerate...even if they are in different industries.
