CX873 SFO-HKG making a pitstop in ICN. Unfavorable tail winds, I guess.

Is SQ following suit?

I think you mean, HEADWINDS...that would be the only reason why it would stop at ICN unless it was a medical diversion. SFO-HKG, while being longhaul, isn't the most longhaul there is out there.

This has been an issue for weeks now. My wife and I had to fly NW SFO-NRT-HKG on the 12th because CX was restricted. After speaking with th CX station manager, He had told me they restricted the flight the night before and it still tech stopped. It will be nice on the return from Vietnam Thursday to not have to deal with that issue again.

North Pacific winds have been consistently stronger than predicted this winter, leading to quite a few CX diversions to ICN, TPE and even Japan from LAX and SFO.

I don't know exactly what other operators are doing and how they operate their flights out of the west coast fuel and load-wise. From experience, SQ would seem not to suffer as much from it, but then I don't know about their fuel policies, and what kind of load they carry on the California flights.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit posting...

Absolutely. Thanks for the correction. Too late on a Saturday night  Smile
