Hi.. There is a Tristar, a 500 I believe, that always sits
at a hangar next to Signature (previously CitiJet) at Love Field... I saw it a while back, and I seem to remember it always being there, even as a kid (10 years ago)... Does anyone know what this jet is used for (or was used for?) I can't remember what the paint said, but I think it said something typical of a charter.

Also, do widebodies often fly into Love?

First of all, I agree with your screen name (Iwantanl1011) and it sucks I couldn't pony up the cash for that L-1011 on sale on EBay!!!

But, to answer your question, the plane was delivered to Pan Am in the early 80's and now it is with a private charter company I assume....the caption under the photo below is interesting.

It has yet to move since I've been here. Someone once told me that it was previously used by Donald Trump but I'm not sure about that. The only widebodies seen regularly at Love are Airborne Express' 767s. Occasionally, I've seen a Saudi registered corporate A340 & B767 but not often. Once last year, a 747SP in full Saudi Arabian new colors also made a surprise appearance. When Express One operated DC10-30s, they also operated there on occasion.

Thanks for the info guys.. Wow-- maybe we could pony up the maintainance costs!

Such a sad thing to see a plane go to waste like that. I suppose its better than mojave.

Interesting,
But what is that tail in the background? It has somekind of crazy symbol and looks to be a wideboy, possibly a 747SP?

Anyone know what that is?

it was grounded at ATL for a while also.

Personally, if I owned a Tristar, I'd FIND a way to pay the damn fees and get it back! Sheez....

I talked to the guy at Love Field about this. The plane actually belongs to Yasser Arafat, but it is impounded at DAL because Arafat has refused to pay maintenence costs and airport fees.

When I was at Love Field taking photos of the shut down Legend planes, I saw this Tristar and wondered. Now I know. Also, did any of you folks see the ex TWA 767-200? It was on the very far end (opposite of the Legend terminal, which I just realized is nowhere near the normal Love terminal) and was clearly in TWA colors- the NEW TWA colors, but TWA on the tail was painted over with off white. Very interesting, I thought. I got a picture, but it's a 35mm camera and you absolutely almost can't even see the plane, much less what paint it has.

That ex-TWA 767 was most certainly the AbEx plane that's been reported to be flying around in TWAs colors. Regarding the tail in the background of the picture, the old Associated Air Center used to do maintenance on a variety of foreign corporate jetliners including DC-8s, 757s and 767s.

I called Love Field this morning to find out the scoop... I just couldn't resist. The airport manager said it is a foreign owned aircraft, and is not being held by the City of Dallas or the airport.. The owner is just leasing the space for it to be stored here.

I was rather disappointed-- I guess I was hoping I could "bail it out of jail" with the $20 I have in my pocket.

Maybe it's being held by some maintainence company and not the Airport...

Actually, it is due to be converted to a VIP configuartion ... sometime! The flight deck was done at HAECO and is stunning; I have seen the interior plans (done by Associated Air Centre) and it looks good - the aircraft itself is on the Cayman register.

I have also seen Northwest 727's at DAL on more than one occasion, as they are used in the NBA's Air Charter Program.

I think the AirEx plane above looks great in former TWA colors. Perhaps AirEx should look into a new livery,

I was under the assumption that it belonged to Arafat. I saw it on the night of January 4th when I arrived from ORD on AA. It looked peaceful over there in the dark, just like the Legend planes.
