Matlinpatterson has firmed an order for 6 X A332F from Airbus.

Airbus press release below:

MatlinPatterson Global Advisers LLC, the US investment fund,
through an affiliate, has signed a firm contract for six A330-200
Freighter aircraft. The company intends for the aircraft to be
used by certain of its airline portfolio companies, such as Varig
Logistica in Brazil and Global Aero Logistics in the USA. With
this agreement the two airlines will become new Airbus operators.
This new contract brings firm orders for the recently launched
A330-200F to 72 firm orders from eight customers, confirming the
strong market demand in the Freighter sector.

"We are very pleased to add the new wide-body freighter, the
Airbus A330-200F to our portfolio, which will allow us to renew
the fleets of our airlines", said David Matlin, CEO of
MatlinPatterson. "This aircraft's superior payload-range
capability and low operating cost are a significant improvement
over the older generation aircraft that it will replace", he
added.

John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers said:
"MatlinPatterson's decision to select the A330-200F underscores
its very robust launch, and is a great endorsement for our latest
Freighter aircraft. It is a recognition of the opportunities the
A330-200F offers carriers who want to optimize their freighter
performance and develop their networks".

The aircraft is gaining a good foothold in the Freighter market, and will be a good source of revenue for Airbus and will extend the A330 line long after the A350XWB goes into service it seems!

A nice little order I think.

This order for six frames indicates that this is a DC-10-30F replacement order: 2 DC-10s at World Airways, 3 at Varig LOG plus one for expansion. Makes them a potential A350-800/900F customer down the road for their MD-11F replacement when it comes due.

This is wonderful news.  Smile and once again demonstrates the appeal that the A332F has in the market. In little more than a year the A332F has already gained a total of 72 firm orders.  Wow!

This order announcement also comes at a time in which it will no doubt put more pressure on the USAF tanker selection. Airbus is clearly demonstrating that the A332F in its category is the preferred aircraft in the freighter market and in such a short time period has nearly managed to outsell its closest rival the 767F, despite the 767 having been on offer since 1993.

Varig has previously operated the A300.  Wink But do remember that these frames are being allocated to VarigLog and not Varig.

Any chance that Varig will get the A330/A350 for their passenger fleet. I understand they are looking for new long haul aircraft now.

Wow, a World A330F is something I had never expected. Maybe the A330/A340 could also be a Dc10/MD11 replacement for their passenger fleet.

You're right. Somehow only the VASP A300s came to my mind.  Smile

332F makes a pretty good DC-10 replacement

Heard at work today that Kelowna Flightcraft are picking up a VarigLOG DC10 - this would be why...

World Airways two DC-10-30F's are getting a bit long in the tooth.
It could be a sign of things to come, as in a replacement for the MD-11

What would be nice to see is an A332 painted in the same finish as
N803DE. Now that would be a pretty bus!

I guess the 777 and 777F would be too big for World as a Dc 10-30F/MD 11 replacement.
As a freighter the A330F would carry the same payload as the Dc 10 but over a bigger distance so the A330F seems to be the perfect. Does not World also get 747Fs ?
