I was just wondering if a DC3 is ever been put on floats and if so does anyone know where to get pictures? They would have to be some pretty big floats.

Thanks

If you can find a copy of Airways from July 1998 there is an article with photos. Reg. of DC-3 on floats is N130Q. At the time it was owned by a guy named Max Folsom and was based out of Greenville Maine. It was at the time, the only DC-3 on floats.

Article goes on to state that the USAAF ordered 150 sets of Edo 78-29,400 floats for C-47's so I am sure there are military photos somewhere as well. Eventually only 30 sets of floats were manufactured and not all were installed. Designation of C-47 on floats was C-47C.

N130Q was originally a C-53D Skytrooper USAAF serial No. 42-68834 Manuf. Ser No. 11761. It was delivered to the USAAF in October 1943, acquired by eastern Airlines in November 1945, modified to DC-3 standards and registered NC86562. It stayed with Eastern till 1952.

I am pretty sure that I read somewhere that this aircraft has since been sold but I can't remember any of the details.

Hope this helps.

Appears I was wrong on the sale of this aircraft. Just ran a search of the registration and the plane comes back registered to
HBF Inc
PO Box 507
Greenville, Maine
04441-0507.

You can write to this company and perhaps they will forward a photo or two.

Good Luck
