I just arrived into LGA from ORD this morning on AA #398 after a 3 day business trip. As I was leaving the airport to head home, I noticed an American 767 landing on RWY 31 around 9:30 EST. I believe it was the 300 series, but it definately was a 767. Anyone know why American was flying this bird into LGA today? They don't typically fly this airframe into LGA. Could it have been a diversion from JFK?

It's not uncommon to see a 763 subbed in on a MIA-LGA-MIA routing,in fact we're seeing it about once a week these days.
More than likely it was a result of equipment juggling with that 75 diverting into PBI last night.
Yes, I actually *do* work for an airline, how about you?

Got it...thanks for the quick reply! I wish AA would make that equipment change from ORD! I am tired of flying on MD-80s.!

If you go to MIA with American, you'll definitely fly on something else regardless of where you fly from.
Yes I think you're right about the AA763 into LGA, it's probably an equipment change because normally no 763 is scheduled to fly to LGA. Only Delta flies 763's to LGA.
Since the MIA-LGA segment doesn't require a full load of fuel, the aircraft won't be too heavy for landing and take off on LGA's runways.

Not that it matters but I was an Air Traffic Controller in Chicago Center that worked your flight this morning Then again if I work an early day shift I talk to that flight everyday! Today was nice and slow so im sure I climbed ya right up (that flight I believe usually requests FL330 and is an MD80).
