Credit for this discovery goes to MaverickM11. Spot on sir.

Effective May2nd, 2008 NW will start 1x daily service between AUS and IND as well as SAT and IND. The flights will be operated by Pinnacle.

IND-SAT Flight# 4701
SAT-IND Flight# 4700

IND-AUS Flight# 4703
AUS-SAT Flight# 4702

AUS is returning service. This route was a victim of either the mechanics strike or bankruptcy. SAT is a brand new NW route from IND.

I wonder if this is NW returning to their IND expansion plan they had prior to the strike and bankruptcy?

Hmmmm.... NW just announced SAN-MEM (Compass), and now IND-SAT/AUS (on Pinnacle). If this indicates some sort of IND expansion, could it be possible that SAN-IND might also happen this summer?

It seems to be a good year so far for both AUS and SAT with both domestic and intl services being added by multiple carriers. It's always good to see growth in new places!

It's proving to be too good a year for AUS - the airport is running out of gate space! They're going to have to do something because AUS is now almost completely at-capacity.

That's no problem... WN will just move over to the ULCC terminal  Wink

Probably for the same reason NW hasn't considered IAH-IND.

I don't know, hopefully. It's nice to see airlines diversify a little bit. Anyway, you know which new rooute from IND I would like to see. And I think it could probably work well with a CRJ.  Wink

For the record, those are some pretty long bock times...looks like 2h40m for both...that's about an hour too long on a CRJ for my liking, but nonstop service is better than nothing.

I suspect NW will wait for FL to give it up (which they almost undoubtedly will).

They give it up on April 5th. They didn't even want to stretch it out to early May to catch the significant Jazz Fest traffic. Oh well.

Missed that. FL drops so many routes I can't keep track. Seriously, I really do think that IND-MSY could work for NW, and will work better in the absence of FL.

This is good news for NW at IND. IMHO, AUS has a shot, but I think that high fuel prices will cause SAT to get canned quickly.

I remember when NW first announced AUS-IND a couple of years ago. It was mentioned in this old press release on ABIA's website.

The service was to begin June 9, 2005. I didn't think they ever actually started it, though but I guess they did. How long did it last?

I read on another forum that AUS airport officials are expected to go to the City Council sometime this month seeking to add 6-9 gates on the East Concourse.

Back in the day (couple years ago) the plan was 70 to 80 flights a day. I don't know if we'll ever see PHX come back. Certainly won't see STL back. That was a horrible route. But what do you expect for $600 to $800 r/t tickets? I think YYZ was one of the planned routes.

Quoting SANFan (Reply 4):

Honestly I would have expected SAN before SAT. So when MaverickM11 posted this tip in another thread I thought perhaps it was a typo.

Ugh... it was late when I typed this. I wonder if I could get a mod to fix it?

MSY is offering money. I'm betting NW bites.

They did have this back in 2005, operated by Pinnacle. It was lucky to get 10 people on board daily.

The 44 seaters are no longer in existance, all have been moved back to 50 seater configuration.

Thats the one anyway. For business destinations the departure times are a bit odd especially IND-SAT. Unfortunately there is absolutely no room for NW to add more morning departures. They have space for 12 jets at the terminal but have 14 to 17 (depending on time of year) jets at the airport in the morning. No room as it is. They have to remote park jets and bring them up to the terminal once the first departures take place and space opens up. I don't know if they have room to remote park any additional jets.

Yes, I agree. I wonder, however, when US is going to start CLT-SAT-CLT.
