I was just wondering what happened to SA 's boeing 767's they used to operate and their A330's and A300's and A320's.
Where they not effective for SA or why did they stop using them? What new aircraft might be in SA 's future, any thoughts would be appreciated

The A330's were only on lease from Bmi and were returned once the A340's began arriving into the fleet.
From what I understand the A320's were ordered and deliveries had begun, but then a change of management decided to switch back to Boeing, and the A320's were disposed of in favour of the B737-800's. Another change of management a few years later decided to switch back to Airbus which is why they now have A319's and A340's in the fleet !!.
Basically alot of bad management/politics has ended up costing the airline a fortune !!.
Not sure what happened to the A300's - are they not operating some of them still for SA Cargo ?.

Not quite...
SAA had been operating a number of A320s for years before Coleman Andrews decided that B737-800s were the best aircraft for the 120-200 seat requirement; shortly after these planes had been delivered (not sure if all had already been delivered), Coleman Andrews was ousted from his job and the next management decided that an A319/A320/A321 combo would be better suited after all, so those were ordered. This order was then reduced to primarily A319s (though I think there was some talk of A320s or A321s headed for SAA soon) if I recall correctly, because of the financial difficulties that SAA constantly finds itself in these days... unfortunately...
The A330s, as mentioned, were leased from BMI on a relatively short term lease, while the B767s were with SAA for quite some time, but they, too, were removed from the fleet when the B738s started arriving...

I believe at one point, SA leased an A330-200 from TAM as several photos show the outline of the TAM writing at the front of the aircraft. (Also kept the regisrtation of a TAM aircraft.)
ZS-SRA went from SA to LAM Linhas Mozambique (TM) to Air Luxor (LK) and back to LAM Linhas (TM). The frame is currently on lease from LAM Linhas Mozambique (TM) to AM. ZS-SRB and ZS-SRC are active with 7B, registered respectively as EI-GAA and EI-GBA.

SA does not operate any A300's anymore. All of the frames either left SA for other airlines like Onur Air (Turkey) or were stored or scrapped by other operators.

SA ordered 11x 319's and 15x 320's, along with the A340's in 2002. The A320 order was cancelled in 2004, after SA posted a record billion US-dollar loss.

As a sidenote, SA leased 3 A300s to Canadian carrier Wardair in 1986 -- one for about one year and the other two for about 3 to 3.5 years. They're the only passenger A300s ever registered in Canada. Photos of the 3 A300s while with Wardair:

Very true. I believe that in fact all SA A330s that have ever been operated into ZRH had been leased from TAM.
