I was wondering why some aircraft registration country codes are unlogical.

Argentina LV (Why not AR or AG?)
Australia VH (Why not AU or AA?)
Austria OE (why not AU or AT?)
Belgium OO (Ahy not BE?)
Denmark OY (Why not DK?)
Egypt SU (Why not EG, EY or ET?)
Finland OH (Why not FI?)
Malaysia 9M (Why not MA?)
Madagascar 5R ( Why not MA or MG)
Netherlands PH (Why not NL?)
New Zealand ZK (Why not NZ?)
India VT (Why not IN or IA?)
Indonesia PK (Why not IN or ID?)
Israel 4X (Why not IS or IR?)
Singapore 9V (why not SI or SN?)
South Africa ZS (Why not SA?)

I wish there was a logical answer to this question. There is not. These codes were produced by agreements from various governments and agencies. The words Government, Logic, and Common Sense tend to be oxymorons.... such is the nature of the Human Race.

For Austria there is a good reason for the registration!
In german you don´t say Austria! It´s called Österreich.
So I live in Österreich! So now, since in other languages there are no Ö,Ä, or Ü, you can also write instead of Ä AE for Ü UE and for Ö OE! See for Austria or in Österreich there´s a simple answer!

yes i can handle that alone. - - -famous last words

FLY 8 brings up a good point, you have to look at the individual country and see how their language works, and that explains a few of them, as for the others like N, or OK, or VP...I have no idea...maybe you should e-mail ICAO/IATA and find out if they have an answer.
