In reference to this photo above, i was wondering how come KL has not upgraded its MD11 and 747 product to a more comfortable seat, like their 777's.
KL's service is excellent but they only lag behind in their seats on their older birds, can anyone confirm if they are in the process of upgrading thier now 'old' product on the 747 and MD 11 to the newer style or maybe even a completely flat seat?
Also, are these seats manufactured by Heath Techna?
Personally, i have observed that once you have flown on a lie flat seat, these 150 degree recline seats seem rather uncomfortable as they still feel like your 'sitting' and not lying down and i have a problem with getting little or any sleep on those kind of seats. I had a simlilar experience on a TP A330, ver spacious seats but hard to sleep in because of the angle and position of the body.

These are new japanese seats that replace the older Rumbold introduced in '99-'00. On the far right is my most favourite seat (only disadvantage: the very small low windows..
Most passengers prefer a slight S-shape above flat for sleeping. These seats incoporate a powerfull Panasonic AVOD entertainment system & have great ANR headets.
Those seats are less massive then some of the podded seats like CX, LH and BA and leave a lot of open space in the cabin, which I personally like a lot.

I've done 11 round trips MAN or LHR-AMS-MNL in the last 10 months, allbeit on the 777.
Europe Select is, in my opinion, dire, especially considering some of the fares they charge when it's not a tag onto a long haul.
WBC I really enjoy. Some have said it's a poor man's business class, but I disagree.
KLM crews just get on with what needs to be done efficiently and with a personal touch. I'm happy to forgo a 42" PTV for service where I'm addressed by name. I'm happy to sacrifice 800 movie choices for having my meal when I want to. The seats are ok, but on the T7, the dreaded middle seat deserves a huge red flag considering what you're likely to be paying. On the 744s, it's 2+2 upstairs and down.
The china houses are a lovely signature feature. It always brings a smile to my face watching everyone getting out their collection list to pick one they don't yet have.
On a personal level, I find the cabin just a bit too blue and not particularly relaxing, but it is just a personal thing, and why do we need huge signs at the front of the cabin to tell us we're in World Business Class? It's in a font that just isn't classy. Also, I wish a portion of Air France influence would find its way into the catering department. Not that there is anything wrong with the catering, but perhaps there could be a little more style and flair.
KLM have never bounced me, nor have they ever lost my luggage, nor have I ever missed a connection with them.
KLM WBC and their crew definitely put the pleasure back into flying, even if it isn't accompanied by the most modern, trendy and fashionable trappings expected these days by some.
It's quite simply an honest business offerring.
I'd say give it a try.

Put it this way they are about £800 cheaper than EY and MH to CGK in C Class (we are flying internally LoCo to DPS I think).
Whats the food like?

I think the load factor in WBC are useally in the 60-70% range. The middle seats on the 777 are seldom used and if used mostly for staff, bumped up FF's etc. In most cases the middle seat serves as (very) popular free seat next to you for the aisle seats. In many cases they put up the table in the middle to serve as addition table for drinks etc. When I had a chance I even put up its IFE screen for permanent moving map/ flight info..

But this works in Y as well
KLM is rumored to install the AF NEV3 seats on the 77W.
The A330 and B772 have the pod-(SSS)-seats, those ones will also appear on the M11 and 747.
I figure the plans for those retrofits were made for quite some time and it would be too costly to make changes to that at this stage.

That does very much depend on the route. The WBC revenue load factors to SIN and CPT, some of KLM's longest flights, are over 95%, so there are always a couple unfortunate passengers are stuck in a middle seat for 12 hours for the couple of thousand euros they dished out for their ticket. In a time when an increasing number of airlines are introducing innovative 1-2-1 seating arrangements in their triple seven premium cabins, a 2-3-2 layout is a big no no in my book.

Actually, the NEV1 & NEV2 seats are similar, the difference is mainly in the footrest., and the space for the feet bellow the front seat.
The NEV3 B/E Aerospace seat is really different : longer (2m instead of 1m86), lie flat, lighter, more comfortable, with a completely new electrical command system. The shell is also different.
You will find them in 17 of the 25 B772ER in service, and in the 4 last delivered B773ER.
None of them are yet installed in any B744, A332 or A343. The A332 will be progressively retrofitted with those NEV3 seats, probably the A343 or at least some of them but not the B744, scheduled to leave the fleet within the next 4 years.
