Would painting a fleet of aircraft to look like they belong in the Flinstones era be considered progress?

Notdownlocked,
You've hit it on the head. I've been trying for so long to figure out what would best describe the paint scheme, it doesn't look professional, and definetly didn't feel Southwestern as AWA likes to think of it, but the Flinstones era is perfect!

It's been seven years since they introduced that scheme. How much longer will it take to have the whole fleet repainted???

AAtripleseven: Let's see...the new AWA c/s debuted in February 1996. To my calculations, that's just five years and not seven years like you suggest, but nonetheless, it's taking longer than it should.
Dazed767: I also posted this same topic about a month ago when N624AW was fresh out of the paintshop and I got no replies...I don't know what it is but I guess you just have the magic touch.

No, actually AAtripleSeven is correct, it has been 7 years. I believe it was somewhere in late 93 to early 94 when it was introduced. I remember seeing it in Air Transport World. This has come up before. I think it wasn't until 96 did HP get around to actually start painting their a/c but the original plan was for 93/94 to actually be complete by 96/97. So, yes, it took 7 years, and w/ the all the non painted 737s, they are not there yet.

My opinion is that the "new" scheme has nothing that represents the Southwestern US in any way, shape or form. Unless somebody out there can pinpoint exactly where the Flinstones resided, perhaps then I may be mistaken. Yabba Dabba Dooooo.......

Actually to be quite frank, I was correct when I said the new livery was unveiled in 1996, which was only five years ago. They had originally planned to have all aircraft painted by the end of 1997, but as you can see, those remaining 29 737-300s and 12 737-200s still in the old c/s shows they obviously have not met their original goals.
To further prove my point, N905AW (Ohio theme plane) and N916AW was introduced during the latter half of 1995. The words "America West" is in the original font which suggests they had not introduced a new livery prior to that time.

I really like the flinstones look it is so original. The first time I heard this from another FA about our flinstones paint job I thought it was stupid until I started thinking about it while looking out the window from my jumpseat while on final approch into PHX and noticed the near by mountians near Sky Harbour, Like Papago Buttes and CamelBack Mountain, It really reminds me of the flinstones. It may not look southwestern but if you ever fly into PHX look at the surrouding mountians and landscape it will all make sense to have the flinstones look. Now all we need is the flinstones uniform
OH BETTY!!!!
