Based on past mergers, what would be the timing for a combination of miles in frequent flyer programs? In other words, if someone had, say, 90,000 miles in UA's Mileage Plus program and 80,000 miles in CO's OnePass program and UA/CO merged, when would those miles be able to be used for 170,000 miles worth of flying?

only when the new combined airline will have created a new common program (or if one former program is integrated in the other one). That what happened with AF/KL when they created Flying Blue (and "killed" Frequence Plus & Flying Dutchman). I don't remember exactly but it took about a year to create this new program after the merger

Well- as NW silver who has just booked tickets to TLV on CO for July, I'm hoping it doesn't happen until after then. I'm counting on those miles for my status next year (and by some luck, at a fare with 100% EQM's!)
