WLNS-TV reports that Capital City Airport has received its' International designation to begin screening cargo and passengers.

It is called Port Lansing and will definatly be good news for the new LAN-SNN flights this summer.

Who will operate that service?

Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.

From what I understand, North American Airlines will operate it with B757 a/c

Hopefully this is just the start for better service to Capital City Airport. They want to rename it Capital Region International.

I would think they could be a little more creative than that though.

Don't get too excited about this. Just about every airport out there seems to have this. I'm actually shocked LAN didn't have it already.

It's a true shame that taxpayer or airport user fee dollars were spent to pander to a charter operation that will never last... because as soon as it dies off the only int'l LAN could hope to attract would be an Air Georgian Beech or Jazz Dash from YYZ... and YYZ preclears anyways.

I think most of the Air Georgian flying to the Great Lakes has vanished compared to the initial days. I know they had 6 additional cities (TOL included) that they never launched, but got DOT approval for. The SNN charter definitely seems pointless. The Port of Entry designation...just about as pointless, like most other airports that have it. At least airports like FWA and TOL that have it, use(d) it for cargo operations.

Air Georgian B1900's served GRR for awhile with Air Canada flight numbers codesharing with UAL into YYZ. Previously Air Toronto operated into GRR from YYZ with J31's.

I wouldn't hold my breath for scheduled service into LAN from YYZ.

About the only thing GRR uses it's international status for is for corporate and cargo flights. I suspect it will be the same for LAN.

Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

Tjwgrr...I still wish somebody did YYZ-GRR (or LAN for that matter) after having to take the 1-stop YYZ-DTW-GRR on NW this last summer - it was expensive and silly as I spent more time laying over in DTW then on the actual flights.

But at least GRR did at one time have the Air Canada flight to YYZ so they could be called "Gerald R Ford International"  Wink

All this means is you might get an AC flight or two and that all the general aviation stuff that had to stop at a place like DTW for customs, can now come into LAN for it. Not much of an upgrade other than just a lot more GA activity.

Hey Obama, keep the change! I want my dollar back.
