CX three A340-600's are going over to HU and D7 (AirAsia X) since these three planes were leased from ILFC and now HU will lease one of them and D7 will lease the other two to become new A340-600 operators.

It is actually 830/830 and 840/841. The flights are doing well especially with the front-end traffic.

Quoting A388 (Reply 5): So there are three daily CX flights to JFK, all operated by the 77W?
830/831/840/841 are B773ERs
888/889 are B744 at the moment. Will switch to B773ERs when more planes arrive, together with Toronto (6 B773ERs at the moment).

CX830/831 has now gone to being all operated by the Boeing 777-300ER. So there are 2 daily 777-300ER arrivals from HKG and 1 daily 747-400 arrival from YVR.

I was on CX 840 HKG-JFK 77W last week and it was completely packed, so it must be doing great. The new plane is beautiful with superb IFE and very nice FAs. Couldn't ask for a better transpac experience in economy.

Quoting A380US (Reply 11): I know thats what i found strange
But I have seen flight numbers with CX tags.
I'm not sure if this is why, but the nonstop service is fairly expensive. If on leisure, it is cheaper to book with a hop.
I did this flight last July on the A346, and while in hour 13, I was cursing myself, after I landed it did feel good to be done with it. Save the 1hr 30min to Westchester to see family.

That's great news; I'll be flying that route in a couple of months.
Do they have any tail or belly mounted cameras on those 77W?

Might be a bit off topic, but since the A346s were mentioned, when are they actually leaving CX? I saw one in LHR on 2/8. Aren't they supposed to leave this month? Or is it the next?

Should be leaving Q3/Q4 this year.
Cathay Pacific wins Airline of the Year 2009 Award. Great service. Great people. Great fares.

They have nose and belly cameras for the 77W. They are on for take of and landing and inflight, but i think the IFE doesn't start until a few minutes after take-off. You can watch both cameras in flight, but not much goes on up there.
Emirates 777-300s have the map and cameras and total IFE system turned on the whole time you're on the plane. I think you can start watching a movie 2 minutes after you find your seat on EK. But whenever EK crew make announcements they freeze all the IFE screens so you have to pay attention. EK had more movie content available than CX on the IFE, but both are outstanding.

Not on the system I've seen at EK - they start up the ICE after take off (and then usuall restart it again ten mins later LOL) - I know EY's doesnt start until after takeoff and QR's was the same IIRC.
Thats interesting. What plane were you on? I was on the 777-300s. It was on the entire time. But they did collect the head sets before landing, so some people kept watching what they were watching but without sound.
On the CX flight 840, 77W, one of the pax IFE didn't work and they gave him a bottle of spirits from duty free to cheer him up. I thought that was nice.

I've been on so many of their ICE equipped planes I cant remember - mainly the 77W but also had ICE on their 772ER as well. All the 773As of theirs ive been on had the older IFE. Not been on their A332 yet oddly enough.
Now that I think about it - you may be right actually. I had memories of it all being shut off prior to landing and not started up until after takeoff but in fairness Ive travelled so much on EY etc that its hard to pin down the peculiarities of each system. Either way, a great system.

They must love the 773ER considering that they have so many on order and the fuel savings over the A346 must contribute greatly to less global warming. I flown their new 773 with the new business class configuration while it is very comfortable but rather confining as you can not chat with your neighbor.

Of course they love saving fuel
Practice makes perfect but no ones perfect so why practice?
26 ZK-NBT: They are currently going to LHR and YYZ on certain days. They will go to JNB for a while before they leave the fleet.
27 Chiawei: The SFO to HKG fligjhts are still being served by the old 744 (not 74A with upgraded interior). If you are lucky, you can get Old SQ PW birds rather
28 AABB777: Got it, thanks! Hope CX puts their new product on the SFO-HKG route soon! (for your benefit!)
29 Viscount724: Not everyone wants to fly nonstop. There are also passengers who connect via LAX/SFO, or who want to stop over there.
