According to "De Standaard", a belgian quality newspaper, British Airways started negotiations with the SAir Group to join OneWorld. Insiders had already made clear that OneWorld was the prefered partner for SR, as they already code-share with for example American, Finnair and Aer Lingus (this is the case for Sabena), and have FFP-deals with JAL, and as they had been looking for a partner alliance as the former policy of the Qualiflyer Group was abandoned.

Although I think (and hope) that this could happen, I know that oneworld never comments on prospective new partners until everything is signed and ready. I'm not saying that oneworld isn't talking to them, in fact I'm pretty sure that they are, but I wonder where they got their information from.

According to the newspaper it was BA itsefl which announced the talks. They wrote: (English transaltions below)

or in English

British Airways (BA) started negotiations with the Swiss Swissair concerning an entrance of the SAir Group in the OneWorld alliance. This was announced by the company today. CEO Rod Eddington of BA said that nothing permits to conclude that this hypothesis (the entrance) will become true.

I can confirm this information. Various Swiss quality newspapers (NZZ, etc.) reported similar news. They, however, mention their source as Reuters.

I truly hope this (SR joining Oneworld) will happen soon!

It would be a great bonus for Oneworld if Swissair joins as it is a high quality airline.

Some of the other airlines in Onewold, such as Iberia are not quite up to the standards set by BA,CX and Qantas for example.

Another thing,AA need's to brush up also,my last flights with them were all delayed and they cancelled all of my reservations for 3 connecting flight's back to London.
