United replaced the DVD players in UF/UB with 80GB media players effective 2-8-08. These devices provide an interactive menu and multi-language movies. Quite an improvement over the DVD's. They will feature early release movies not previously available on the DVD's and video games.

I think that UA needs to install AVOD into their Economy seats to make there p.s. flights even more desireable than they already are. This is a step up for First and Business classes from the DVD players.

Yes, their pretty kool touch screens that are loaded every month with new movies, they even have stuff for kids. Said to hold up to 27 movies, 22 television programs, 40 audio CDs and five video games.

AA has been using these for a while on the transcon Flagship service in J and F. UA is only catching up.

The players are really nice. I liked mine on the Flagship flights I flew between LAX and JFK last summer. More variety than the crappy menus...  Wink . Similar to the DishPlayer product you could get from Dish Network for a while.

It hasn't been that long, and UA blows AA out of the water with the rest of the service throughout the aircraft.

AA need to do the same with their seats on those routes in F & J, which are far more important to me than IFE. THEY need to catch up!

AA announced a year ago many improvements to the 762 fleet, including true lie-flat seats for F-class. The seats will be installed beginning in May. Also, AA will begin testing WIFI in March on board the 762s.

Did I say otherwise? I called their menus crappy, right?

But it HAS been that long. In technology terms, it's over 9 months, which is 1/2 a technology life cycle. Considering that the technology wasn't new when AA put it on, UA is catching up.

So many people are so touchy when people claim PS isn't the end all be all, aren't they?

Truth is, it's fine, but just like the AA 762s, the UA 752s are upgraded with old technology rather than doing a complete cabin refit including IFE. AA will still be behind the times in Y and J on this plane (though the J seat itself is comfortable enough for a 6 hour flight). VX F offers a better product for less money. Of course, it's hard to get a seat...
