Allegiant Air will offer two nonstop flights a week from Wilmington International Airport to Orlando Sanford International Airport beginning April 4.
Introductory fares will start as low as $39 each way and are on sale now at www.allegiantair.com or by calling (702) 505-8888.
Airport and airline officials made the announcement this morning near the ticket counters in the airport’s main terminal.
On Tuesday, ILM officials announced a new airline was coming but declined to release details until today’s news conference.
In a recent interview, Airport Director Jon Rosborough said he continued to aggressively pursue nonstop service to airports in South Florida and Washington, D.C., two of the most-wanted destinations of Wilmington-area travelers.
Today, two airlines offer commercial flights out of Wilmington. US Airways offers non-stop flights to Charlotte, New York and Philadelphia, while Atlantic Southeast Airlines flies to Atlanta.
US Airways officials also said this week that new 99-seat Embraer 190 aircraft would fly two of the daily flights between Wilmington and Charlotte, offering roomier cabins and first-class sections.
Also, Comair plans to resume one flight a day from Wilmington to Cincinnati in early April. The seasonal service will last through Labor Day.
