you won't get in to any international terminals @ JFK because of security reasons, except for Delta. I would recommend jetBlue depending on the conditions, as you have a great view from the terminal.

Can somebody please explain to me the grave danger and threat to air travel incurred by letting someone not in posession of a boarding pass in the boarding area? I mean they do check your tickets at the door to the jetway as well don't they? You do still pass security screening, right?
So what is the problem?
What about at domestic terminals such as the A terminal at EWR or the Central Terminal at LGA?
Is it really, REALLY for some sinister, classified security reasons, or is the airport authority doing that-simply because they can?

They probably do it to keep the amount of people in the terminal to a minimum. I don't know if you have been in LGA or JFK when it is busy, but I'm sure you can imagine. Only allowing those with tickets in the terminal helps with having less people in there, that's all. It kind of does suck, though, for taking pictures and the like. If I'm not mistaken, one does not need to have a ticket to go in the Tom Bradley Intl. Terminal at LAX, do they?

I would buy that theory if not for a couple of things:
First, why do they allow the public into the C terminal at EWR? Why is there a sign at the security checkpoint to the USAirways terminal at LGA saying that the public is welcome?
Why at LAX can anyone get into any of the other terminals-except the Bradley Terminal?

If you are taking pictures at any of the NY area airports but do have a ticket then Port authority can't do anything to you because you are a ticketed passenger. Same goes for GTW and LHR but in DEL and BOM don't even bother bringing your camera because you''l probably never see it again. I take pic at NY area airports if only I'm a ticketed pax because if you're not.. Then PA and the NYPD will have a field day with you and your camera and you won't see the end of it; but if you do have a valid tic to fly in or out then your just fine and no one can bother you. I took pics of the UAL fleet last summer because I flew them JFK-LHR and no one said a thing to me even though I did get a couple of suspicious looks and I was asked to show my tic to the PA and NYPD and they said that it's ok as long as I've got a tic.

Back to the original Question about spotting at JFK.
It just so happens that there is a really terrific parking lot off of Farmer's Blvd. on the airport grounds where US CUSTOMS and the US POST OFFICE are.
You get to park right up against a taxiway off of RWY13L (I think) and it is awesome. You get all international airlines (since DL uses 13R). The last time I was there a RAM (Royal Air Maroc) 747-400 came in so hard and fast that the reverse thrust made car alarms go off in the parking lot!!! Totally cool.
The parking lot is actually for US CUSTOMS and has a NO TRESSPASSING sign, but it is not enforced on week-ends. Also the place is full of spotters.
There is also a web-site called "planespotters" which you should try as well.
Good luck! OA

I've been to JFK dozens of times and have taken dozens of pictures from every terminal at the airport. True, only Terminals 2 and 3 (Delta) allow u to pass through the security checkpoints without a ticket. But I've gone as far as possible in the other terminals and taken pictures and no one has ever bothered me.
My favorite spot to watch the taxi action and see takeoffs and landings is from the top deck of both parking garages at JFK.
