Hello all,

is BRS open 24 hours for traffic? If not do you know if they close their terminal or does it remain open during the night. My friend is arriving to BRS around 11pm (Its EasyJet flight). He is trying to get to EXT and I know that no train or bus operates to EXT until early morning. Before I suggest to stay at BRS airport, I would like to know if it is possible for him to wait till the morning in the terminal.

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,
Andrej

Get your friend to cjeck National Express. On a school trip to Spain last year, we used it (337 I think) Which goes from Plymouth - Heathrow via Totnes, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Exeter, Taunton and Bristol Airport, if he could use it going in the other direction then it may be useful.

That would be the best plan, the service (NX404 IIRC) leaves BRS at 02:20 and gets into Exeter about an hour and a half later, if not less as it doesn't make any other stops on the way. Failing that, grab a bench in a quiet corner of the airport and try to get some sleep - it's like a ghost town in the early hours, until lost looking people on package tours start turning up for their flights to the sun at about 3am. Also bear in mind that the Airport rip off Express is now £5 one way or £8 return from the airport into the city centre, so by taking the NatEx coach he'll avoid having to pay that too.

Hey guys,

thanks for the further information. That's what he is going to do. He looked on the National Express webpage earlier this afternoon, but I still wanted to be sure whether BRS is open 24 hours and if people can stay in the terminal.

National Express is the best option for him and it should not be a bad ride. Regarding the

Airport rip off Express

it is quite steep price, but I have used it all the times when traveling to/from BRS. I purchase train tickets (from EXT) all the way to the airport so the ride is already paid for. Having my student discount (Young Person's Pass) it is usually cheaper than National Express without their discounts.

Anyways thanks for all your help!

Cheers,
Andrej

You have to be careful though when doing that, I travel from Birmingham New Street down to Bristol airport quite a lot, if I'm lucky I can get the New Street to Temple Meads journey for about £5 each way, but if I put my final destination in as Bristol Airport, then it only offers me the full standard fare, plus the cost of the Airport Express. Which reminds me... I need to book a train back for mother's day!

true, they do include the charge in the ticket. Does National Express offers routes from/to Temple Meads to BRS? In either way, the bus ride was fine. Not how I would spend my GBP5.00, but it is sunk cost now. I will have to look for some cheaper alternative.  Smile

Nat Ex do the route only once or twice a day, so it's not really viable, you can also catch the local busses which are cheaper, but I've never been brave enough to do so in case I end up in some frightening suburb of Bristol - perhaps I will next time, just for the hell of it.

I also love it when you check for fares on NationalRail.com and it tells you that First is cheaper than Standard Big grin

I am not brave enough to take local buses as well, however even the Airport rip-off Express makes stops in the city on the way to BRS. When you decide to take the journey, please write a trip report so I know how was it.

There is always an option to take a taxi, but I am sure that they journey to/from Temple Meads will be much more then GBP 8.00...I guess if flying from BRS I will stick with Airport Express, unless I can catch National Express!

I just checked 1st Class on 23rd from EXT-LON and back for ~GBP 42.00....not bad at all! I am tempted now!

The airport express is perfectly ok - I'm somewhat baffled as to the concerns expressed here and in other BRS threads. It starts at the Malborough St bus station, stops in the Centre, then Temple Meads, once or twice heading out through Bedminster, then straight down the A38 to the airport. No big deal.

The local bus is also fine, except that from Bedminster it wanders off round some of the villages on the eastern end of Dundry before turning back onto the A38 at Lulsgate Bottom. Actually on a nice day it's a very pleasant ride, the scenery around Dundry is quite delightful. I'm not sure where 'bravery' comes into it...  crazy

My experience with the Airport Express was fine. The ride is quick and what one would expect. Also I prefer to fly to/from BRS as I live in EXT (I am usually flying to/from BTS or VIE). It is good airport to fly in/from if living in western part of the England.

scratchchin  ......the wandering though villages of eastern end of Dundry sounds like only a brave one could do it.....  duck   biggrin

To be honest I have not realized that there is a local bus connection to BRS from Temple Meads. I was always directed to Airport Express.

Anyways I am sorry if I hurt my fellow Bristolians and other good folk from western England! No harm intended!  Smile

No worries!

I only found out about this bus because you can't use a FirstDay Southwest ticket on the Airport Express (unsurprisingly), and I wanted to find an alternative route. It only runs once an hour, and not early morning/late evening, but here's a link for all the BRS users: Route 121 Timetable

Well that depends on your point of view. For example, taking the local bus (2 miles) to Temple Meads station to catch the 'rip off Express' to the airport (9 miles) will cost about £3.20 for a single. A taxi for the same trip will be £6-8. A taxi to the airport is about £20.

Now can anyone spot the real 'rip off express'?!
