It's been reported (sorry, can't post link) that LY will buy three "new" 737-800s from an unnamed Spanish airline (Air Europe? Futura?) for delivery in 2009 and these aircraft will replace five 757s currently operated by SV.

LY can comnpensate routes with more demand by sending B767's and routes with less demand B737's. Some routes that used to be B752 destinations have received or more frequency with B737's or an upgrade to larger equipment. For instance CDG used to see a lot of B752's soon it will mainly get long haul equipment and some B737's. It looks like LY can do well without having this niche capacity between the B737s and the B767's

I think EL AL will purchase new/used a/c in the comming years instead of buying direct from boeing. LY would still be getting new a/c but at a discount price and they would save on the cost of a ferry flight from SEA-TLV. However I expect them to buy new widebodies direct unless they can find some like this.
