What are realistic perspectives in terms of deliveries should Air France really take over Alitalia and start to renew the fleet.
I don't want to open another thread about the current weakness of Alitalia and Italy bashing - we've had enough of that in the past.
But let's say the future new Italian government gives the deal it's blessing and AF/KLM take a majority of AZ- how soon could they realistically get deliveries of needed Long-haul and single aisle metal ?
Grounding most of the obsolete MD-XX fleet would inevitably reduce expenses ,but also cut revenue and income. While Milan will see significant cuts ,AF still has to initiate a massive order to bring down the average seat-mile costs.
So what's the guess ? will there be a big A319/A320 order plus some A330's ?

I see only a small Airbus 319/320/321 order because the total AZ fleet will be reduced and the current capacity is not needed because of the massive reduction at MXP. Don' t forget there are still a lot of EMB 170 +145 around
AZ already operates B777 of which i think will stay at AZ. I am not sure if they require more Long Haul Aircrafts but if I would guess it will be more 777 maybe second hand or even AF ones. If AF continues buying B773 they could give some (by some I mean less than 5 ) to AZ.
If AF will buy AZ I don' t expect a larger order very soon, there is to much to do instead of buying ACs and with the reduction to FCO as sole hub I don' t see a real need for new aircrafts!

Well de Wijk last week re-iterated AF's intention to invest more than 3 Billion € in AZ and mentioned explicitly aircraft-purchases (but without qualifying or quantifying them ).
True that Milan op's will be reduced, but FCO and other airports in Italy will get more trafic.

I didn' t know that.
The first Bilion will be spent to make FCO to a Compatible Hub and for restructuring the AZ Management.
Does anybody know how many MDs are still with AZ and how many EMB 170 with AZ Express? I can imagine they will order A320s in a number somewhat between 25% and 50% of the current MD fleet!
Maybe AF will replace all 767 by 777 that also will cost a lot! So 3 Billions are spent pretty easy.
What are the plans for AZ Cargo?
