Didn't see this posted and quite interesting after it happened at National a week ago. A B737 and a "express" plane clipped wings and needed to be "pried" apart according to the article.

Does anyone know more info? Is pried a big media word?

What does this happen twice in a week 30 miles apart

Amazing that these pilots aren't a touch more observant-how do you not notice that you're about to pilot your plane...straight into another plane? Amazing.

As to the word pried, I initially found it rather inapropriate, but having looked it up, one of its meanings is to seperate without difficulty, so It would appear a correct usage  Smile

The opinions I post are of mine and mine alone, not of the airline I work for.

Runway 1219? That would mean you take off from runway 14 after doing three turns on the ground at the approach end, wouldn't it?

Maybe because you can't see the wing from the cockpit

You can see the tips in the Airbus from the cockpit. Don't know about the Fauxbus 170 but I am guessing they are visible also. From the looks of it the 170 hit the bus.

The Airbus was supposed to come to ABQ. It was all over the news that day here in ABQ.

Understand airbus was stationary and the RJ was moving which makes sense from the picture.

How embarrassing for the flight crews of each aircraft, it was a company aircraft  Sad

Not sure how it is embarrassing to the Airbus crew. They were parked and hit by another aircraft. If you are parked in your car and sideswiped by another would you be embarrassed?

The E170 is not a company aircraft. It is a United Express aircraft and the pilots DO NOT fly for UAL. They are employed by Republic Air Holdings a company with many aliases that provides outsourced services for UAL. At the expense of mainline UAL jobs I might add.

Absolutely incorrect. Those mainline UA pilots had the opportunity years ago when the first RJ came out to keep regional jets at mainline. Their own pride and ego prevented that from happening. But that is neither here nor there.

Aah, didn't know that, the wing had a Boeing appearance to it. All I could tell is that it was painted in the UAL colors from the winglet  Wink

Nope it was not pride or ego. In fact if you are a UA employee or even a UA pilot do you remember the UA/RJ stickers that were floating around? I have a few I can send if you want. We wanted the RJ flying. The company said they could either buy RJ's or 400's and 777's but not both. There was one major flaw was that the company did not meet their end of the agreement. The metric for removing mainline flying form cities is another agreement that the company failed to comply with after 9/11 also. Being involved in this whole scale destruction of mainline jobs has not been fun.

In fact if you do remember that UA was actually one of the LAST airlines to have regional jets flying under the UA express agreement. Remember the Atlantic Coast airplanes in their generic paint scheme because our pilot agreement did not allow them to fly under the UA agreement. We wanted the RJ's for OUR pilots but instead were deceived by a scurrilous management. The company always said RJ's would be for additional flying, not wholesale replacement.

I should have stated the pilot unions in general ... particularly those involved with other airlines.
