Quoting NEMA (Thread starter): The new Beijing airport terminal is reputedly the biggest building in the world,
So the terminal is bigger than the Boeing-Everett plant? What do they do-bring the planes into the terminal?

It's not the biggest building in the world. It's not even the biggest airport terminal building in the world. This is because the terminal is actually three seperate buildings connected together by a train system. Currently the biggest airport terminal is Hong Kong's Terminal 1, and followed by Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Quoting ScrubbsYWG (Reply 4): doesn't that bring up the debate over what constitutes a building?
I think the thread's title is pretty obvious, AIRPORT TERMINAL. I take that as a reference to a concrete sheltered structure . Unless he wrote LARGEST AIRPORT, then that could encompass everything within the perimeter area.

Well, in the OP, he is saying a show said that the airport is the biggest building in the world.
The point i was making was does a covered area without any walls that is used for one event a year constitute a building?

And I believe they had just surpassed DTW midfield, correct? I seem to recall, at the time, that DTW Midfield was the largest in the world.
I guess this is where we get into the details of how this metric is gauged--cubic space, dimensions, what?

Quoting Ryanair!!! (Reply 3): Nope, it is HAJ Terminal in Jeddah. That is the largest terminal building in the world.
It's more of a tent isn't it? Or a marquee?

HKIA T1 contains the biggest continuous volume of enclosed space on a single level. It's 1400m to walk from end to end.
Beijing, while having a similar design by the same architect (Lord Foster), is split up into 3 blocks. The 2 end blocks are each 1100 to walk from end to end. The middle block is 480m.
If you visit Beijing, Hong kong and London Stansted, you will find a lot of similarities amonst them, especially between HK and Beijing. It's been a learning process for Norman Forster doing these 3 airports. What they complained about at Stansted he fixed at Hong Kong. What we complained about at Hong Kong he fixed at Beijing.

I was looking at Beijings airport, is the old terminal staying open? Because it didn't mention NW moving to the new terminal in either phase.
