FIRST, "QATAR Airways plans to fly its commercial aircraft with gas-to-liquids kerosene fuel sometime next year, airline chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker has said."

He also dismissed VS's claim to run a test flight using one of the four engines with nut oil.

SECOND, "QATAR Airways yesterday formally opened its new sales, reservations and ticketing office in Doha exclusively for first and business class customers. The Premium Sales Office, located on the C-Ring Road in Umm Ghuwailina, is designed to serve the needs of customers travelling in the premium cabins. "

This looked like an offset of the luxury Premium Terminal in DOH.

THIRD, QATAR AIRWAYS handled 9 million passengers this year ending in March--an increase of 31% on last year. The Cargo segment grew a total of 60% last year also. The airline will recieve 7 777's this year, including a paiir of 777-200LR for the daily DOH-IAH to be conducted in October or November.

"All future long-haul routes will be conducted by the 777"

FORTH: "...adding only three destinations to its worldwide network this year. Besides Houston, Guangzhou in China will be brought online in April. The third destination this year will be announced in due course. "

Any guesses? MEL? The newspaper hinted at an announcement next week of this year's new destinations.

So until they get their 77L online the IAH-DOH route will have a stop over in FRA? Looks like they will have a 747 on the IAH-FRA portion. I say "they" because QR doesn't have any 747s so, I'm asuming this will be a codeshare?

Flight : Qatar Airways QR 5501
Flight : Qatar Airways QR 4624

Both flights are actually operated by Lufthansa, hence the 747-400 on the IAH-FRA leg  Smile

Isn't the rule by fear attitude the norm in this part of the world?!!  confused  QR obviously needs the likes of Maurice Flanagan, James Hogan & Bjorn Naf to thrive and compete on a global level.

What % of passengers will connect in DOH vs have business there?

I know QR is shifting towards Boeing for future long-haul & ultra-long-haul until the A350's start arriving... So what do they plan to do with the (6) or so A345/346 they have in their fleet?

Freight volume grew 60%... AMAZING!  yes  They are going to need more lift than (7) 77F.

Orders for January 2004 through January 2008

Qatar Airways QATAR Middle East 777F GE 30-May-2006 2
Qatar Airways QATAR Middle East 777-200LR GE 30-May-2006 6
Qatar Airways QATAR Middle East 777-300ER GE 30-May-2006 14
Qatar Airways QATAR Middle East 777-300ER GE 13-Dec-2006 2
Qatar Airways QATAR Middle East 777F GE 05-Apr-2007 5
Qatar Airways QATAR Middle East 787-8 GE 05-Apr-2007 30

What options do they have besides (30) 787. Do not they have (10) more 77W and (7) 77L coming from ILFC?

I know they have (80) A350XWB mix and (5) A380-800 on order.

It's too bad that they will start IAH before LAX....but understandable....

They have a chance of being the first carrier from the Gulf to start service to LAX (before EK) but looks like that will come later. Perhaps next year ? Qatar Airways is a great carrier and it's nice to see them do well.

Indeed lol! I was actually there for some time before I left. I rather had a good time of it (sadly my racial background made it easier for me despite being rather junior there...sad state of affairs altogether) considering a had a large number of mates there and a family member. I now work for a far superior airline in all ways except perhaps service and um...errr...baggage delivery!!! LOL!
It really kills me to see an airline like Qatar expand so rapidly simply on the back of slave labour and fear. I reckon if the majority of western customers knew what it was really like they may take their dollar elsewhere away from Qatar Airways however then again...price is always the deciding factor!!! LOL!

These last three names have accomplished a whole lot less then AAB. In fact JH is a criminal that cannot even set foot anymore in BAH because of his dealings at GF.

QR set up a leasing company that will manage their planes after they befoer 5 years old. So, all of QR current fleet will have a maximum age of 5 years before transfering them to the leasing companies to lease to other planes.
