Hi everyone,
I heard Las Vegas is going to get a new airport once Mccarran reaches its capacity. Because there are casinos around Mccarran they can't expand. If the residents living around Mccarran agreed to get their homes demolished then they could expand but still they couldn't build a new runway meaning Las Vegas would have to get a new airport. At Mccarran.com it said that once Mccarran reaches full capacity, each plane will have to wait 40 minutes for takeoff!!!! Talk about long! So i was looking at airport divisions on mccarran.com and i clicked on airport expansion i think?????? Anywayz i went there and it said a new airport may be built 32 miles south of Las Vegas. What does everyone think about this? Do you think this new airport will be International? Will the largest operator in Mccarran, SOuthwest AIrlines operate into this airport? Will National AIrlines, Las Vegas hometwon airline also do service to this new airport? I also heard that this airprot would be called Impah Valley.  Smokin cool

I don't think that is something even remotely likely to happen for at least several decades.

Have you ever been to McCarran? the land it sits on is HUGE!!!!! Plus, they recently completed the beautiful new D concourse, which I understand has a 70 gate potential. It is not even at half capacity yet! The opening of that terminal meant that more than half of the original terminal (the A gates) were vacated.
Those can be refurbished, and used for still further expansion.
Obviously, LAS has plenty of room to grow just out of existing facilities. Plus, if and when the time comes, the land is still available for an additional runway if needed, not to mention another terminal or two.

I'd say that Mccarran is here to stay for awhile.

Oh, yeah... do u know how big a runway is?? Las Vegas can't even probably build a 5000 footer... If u still don't beleive me... go to mccarran.com... then to Airport Divisions and then go to Planning... Click on current projects and then click on Ivanpah Valley Airport... I hope u believe me now and u understand that u should know the facts before you go against them  Smile/happy/getting dizzy You were right about how they can expand the terminals but this would just put more traffic onto the runways... Mccarran is not going to build more runways to relieve traffic... Another crossing runway would just create more delays.

Isn't there another airport that handles a little commercial traffic in Vegas? I believe it is call the North Las Vegas Air Terminal. Does anyone have info on this and is there a chance that might be used?

Does anybody else think that the way that McCarran is really poorly organized?? Maybe I'm wrong, but if you look at a map of McCarran it looks as if they could have planned the terminal layouts a little bit better. It seems as if they have a main terminal, but with concourses poking out here and there with no central organization. The road layouts there also seem a little confusing.

I've been to LAS many times. There is so much space there to expand. No way they would close it down to build a new one. It's already in a convenient spot...right at the south end of the Vegas strip. Moving it anywhere else wouldn't be too smart a move.

I havent' been to the new Terminal D concourse so I don't know how nice it is but they sure do need to renovate Terminals A/B. The decor is so tacky. I always call McCarran Austin Powers International Airport.

I think the reason for the disjointed layout at LAS is due to the fact that three of the four terminals (2, C, and D) were built well after the original (A,B), and were not part of the original plan. They were sort of an afterthought.
I agree. The A and B gates are a bit dated. But for some reason, I like them. They have character.

I think the airport is great! I have flown in from YYZ three times on thoes stupid charters. Ya one day because of the winds we were delayed two hours leaving, I remember counting 29 planes lined up behind us waiting to take off, thats after we waited and waited and waited!

It will be sad to see it go, but it could be used for hotel space...maybe, a great location to expand.

Actually I think that the terminal, well at least the one that I have been to, is great! I guess its T2, I can probably walk through with my eyes closed, right, left, right and grab you bags and get on the bus or in a taxi. What could be easier. Here at YYZ.....its stupid, just plain and stupid. Everytime I get off a plane there, its like the Jerico Mile to get to your luggage!

Oh well, I hope to return to LAS this fall for the 4th time in 5 years, I love the city and the airport is fantastic, my favorite, and I have been to a few before!

Drive it like you stole it!
