Turboprop Lancair For 787 Program: Is This A Joke?

Hi,

searching for 787 pictures, and I came across this in the a.net database:

The photo caption says "N752BX 787 test bed. Flys as Boeing 52X and gets the job done with a 350 bhp lump and lots of other goodies."

Huh?

Why would Boeing need a GA plane to complete flight testing for the 787 program? Is this a chase plane or something, or is it carrying out some other sort of mystery testing?

Perhaps for avionics systems? I dont know too much about aircraft manufacturing but perhaps some minor gauges/systems are being fitted on smaller aircraft for testing.

There was a CV-580 doing extensive pattern work here at PDX about a year ago, and people were saying that that bird was a flying testbed for the 787 Avionics..

Boeing also used an AA 77E to test the 787 "electronic flight bag" or somesuch system.
