It was a B762 (4X-EAE) and it took him back home.

Apparently so-but there's the not-so-minor issue of whether or not there are slots available. Doesn't El Al have codeshares with TG and OS for the Far East?

LY flies occasional charters to KIX (actually they're Sun d'Or flights but operated by an LY 777).

LY codeshares on their own TLV - BKK routes however I think that there are codeshare agreements on flights from BKK to select asian and Australian destinations with TG. Don't know anything about OS?

OS? Really? Who would fly TLV-East Asia via Vienna? Seems like a crazy idea to me...

IMHO, LY doesn't have enough a/c to open new lines like NRT

There are a lot of passengers flying from TLV to Asia and other destinations around the world via European hubs such as FRA, LHR or ZRH. The main reason LH, LX and BA operate 2x daily with long haul equipment is because of transfer passengers with O&D traffic alone they could never fill those planes
