Air France-KLM published to day a press release after a board meeting: Air france-KLM is allowed to propose on March 14th a binding offer for Alitalia with suspensive conditions.
The suspensive conditions include the trade-unions positions.

I was expecting someone to bring up a thread...
I heard that Berlusconi - who will be the new Premier in Italy - doesn't want AF to take over AZ for nationality issues, and that wants MXP to remain as an AZ hub.
Anyone's got further info?

If someone doesn't take over AZ soon on their own terms, then it will fold. The EU has put a halt on government bailouts.

No details yet but I heard - grapewine - that approval of the offer by the unions and an agreement for a serious discussion before striking is required by AF/KL.

Berlusconi has softened it's initial opposition and said he would be willing to accept a take-over b AF,provided the national identity of AZ will be maintained.
I would also imagine the terms and conditions are rather imposed by AF and not the opposite. So if AZ unions agree on jobcuts as suggested ( about 1400 to go ) and the Malpensa claim of 1.Billion € in case of anticipated flight-cuts from AZ is made obsolete, things should move fast.

Today, the Italian State Council rejected the appeal from Air One concerning the negociations between Alitalia and AF-KLM.
This suppress another obstacle to the take-over.
Concerning the financial situation of Alitalia, I did saw that Alitalia would be bankrupt in June if the take over fails.

The other side of the story is that if AZ fails, or needs to sell assets (including airplanes) I am sure some of their 777's and other aircraft would fit nicely throughout the international aviation community. Let us not also forget their remaining slots at LHR and other airport assets in the entire system have value to other carriers also.
