Asked ground controller why Lufthansa A340-600 has been sitting next to one of the Continental hangars for a couple of days...his reply was a hard landing. Sorry if this was posted before, anybody else hear about this one...???

I'll be in IAH tommorow. You said it is parked over near the CO hangar?

Yep saw it the other day when dropping off a relative. I am surprised that it has not been posted here before now, as it has been a subject of conversation at Houstonspotters fro a few days now. From what I have read, it was a hard landing resulting in the cancellation of that evening's flight. Execs and mechanics from Lufhty were reported to be in on the following day to check the bird out.

I just saw it last night on my way into Terminal E. Beautiful bird, but why park it at CO's hangar?
Woohoo! Back to Beirut in Oct '13! (Along with a stop in DOH for 4 days)

Possibly qualified maintenance personnel once any necessary parts arrive? Another reason, ramp stressed for the aircraft weight?
Otherwise no reason that I might have on the night the ROCKETS WON the 20th straight!

The aircraft involved was D-AIHA, Nurnberg. I saw it there on Saturday morning and it was towed to the CO ramp in the afternoon, at which point all 4 engines were opened up, as well as bays and emergency exits. It looked like they were giving the whole frame a good look. A controller who was working during the event said it was an EXTREMELY hard landing that flexed the wings quite a bit. There was concern the engines may have contacted, but I'm not sure how possible that is. Evidently Friday was very windy, causing more than a few problems. Sounds like a wind shear issue to me. After this long I'm wondering if they found some problems and are now in the process of having them fixed.

I'm not sure the 343 has engines... wait, this the 346 we're talking about. Sorry.
And, seriously, no, they aren't especially low to the groun
but honestly bigger than these tiny things on the 343
ok back to topic...
because of this issue and another technical irregularity of another 346 in CPT some days ago the whole A340-600 schedule at FRA is mixed up. 2 frames went down in short time period which caused several delays on the 346-routes to CPT, KIX, DEN, IAH and CAN. they even switched a MUC based and three-class configurated A346 to FRA.

Uh Oh.... I'll be on the DEN-FRA flight in a couple of weeks and will be not so happy if they have one of the older bus class cabins that evening...
