Jaipur Goes International

I heard this on an Indian channel last night( we get them on cable here in Pakistan) Jaipur airport has been made international, and everything is being spruced up to meet the standard, Jaipur is in the state of Rajhastan bordering Pakistan in the west and the earthquake struck Gujrat state in the South, Jaipur and the whole state offer some great tourist attractions,do the Indian members here know anything more?will services be limited to Indian carriers or will international airlines also get to fly there too, charters in particular Smile

Jaipur was always open to International traffic, esp. charter traffic.

It must be getting upgraded now. I heard a LONG time ago that there were proposals to upgrade some airports, and Jaipur was on that list.

I doubt if that airport can handle anything other than 737-200's. i dont think even A320's can land there.

I had read in the papers some time back that there is a demand to revive a Karachi-Jaipur service which existed in the past, does any one know about that service? it probably for a couple of years after independance but was shelved, would be good to see PIA 737s fly there Smile

Jaipur (JAI/VIJP) presently operates with a single runway 09/27 which is asphalt surfaced and is 7697 feet long.

The improvements being considered will add a permanent customs/immigration facility at the airport and will also look into providing the runway with a concrete surface to facilitate widebodies.

7697 feet seems to be enough for A320 type eqpt to operate from there. Traffic seems to be decent too. Wonder why IC doesnt operate teh A320's there, and isntead deploys the 732's of subsidary CD?

A service from KHI would be great. I find Rajasthan quite fascinting.

I hope to fly to Dehli from Lahore in the very near future. Although I have a British passport, I was born in Pakistan so I am guarunteed a warm welcome by Passport control at IG!!
