Any ATL guys in here know of any damage out at the Airport? There was a tornado that ripped up downtown Atlanta last night, and according to the METAR reports , that there is once again tornadic activity around the city. I hope all is safe.

Quoting PilotNTrng (Thread starter):

The only damage as a result of last night's tornado was downtown. None at the airport.

Still going on. Baseball sized hail is being reported in some areas.

I know Flightaware sometimes isn't very accurate, but looks like they are getting them in after some holding time. Is that the case?

ATL is in a groundstop right now, everyone is seeing diversions, including MCN, JAX, TYS, HSV amoung others

Is it bad that I get excited to see even a CRJ overfly? Man, what this place does to you

Or they are going in circles and flying zig-zag routes. For reference, look at the flight path of DL109 (not sure this link'll work):

Been doing 5 holding patterns and now closing in to ATL, while still criss-crossing along the way.

ATL is in a groundstop right now,

Apparently it's been lifted, a GDP is in effect, average delays of 87 minutes, which isn't that bad considering.

EGE is more delayed than ATL at the moment.

No damage at the airport, but some of the hardest rain i have ever seen fell this AM. Our cargo flight was diverted to KCLT = a delay of about 5,5hrs......for our MD11F.

downtown, that's another matter: driving home i saw the damage from the night before with blown out windows in hotels/apt complexs, billboards torn to shreds, downed trees and light posts.......from the tornado that hit ATL !!
