When thinking about how airports are band-aiding themselves to allow for the A380, it's interesting to look back at how airports expanded to allow the first jets, and then the first jumbos.

ATL, for example, built a special second level section of its old terminal for the first jets. It was strange seeing the DC-8's pulling up to the small jetways, crowding against the little terminal.
