Duty Free On National Airports?

Hi,

I'm flying LGA-NAS on DL next week and I was wondering if there are Duty free shops in the DL-Terminal in LGA or if DL at least offers duty free shopping on the flight.

Sorry, if the answear is obvious but I have never been on such a flight (from a national airport to a foreign destination).

And another question I have is, as far as I know, LGA is a national airport. Do they still have immigration areas so that flights from the bahamas (UK-territory) can be handled?

Thank you

Frank

Bahamas is a sovereign nation... not a part of UK.

But to answer you questions, I don't believe LGA has passport control.. I believe you pre-clear U.S. customs in Bahamas. I also don't believe LGA has duty-free shopping, but I'm not certain.

The flights are pre cleared from the orgin airport. They have preclearance for NAS and Freeport, so they are domestic when they come into the USA. That is the same for flights comming in from YYZ, and YUL and other Canadian airports that have preclearance. They are seperated and have their own preclearance so you go through CBP in Toronto or montreal before you get to your flight.

An airport has to have international departures for it to operate a duty free store. LGA has it for those flights(not all the terminals). Check the airport's website for info. I don't think it is in every terminal, but there is one in the Central Terminal Building.

LGA is not a national/domestic-only airport, it is an international airport. They do have customs and immigration facilities, known as an FIS (Federal Inspection Station) here in the US, but they are too small to be practical for commercial flights. As such, LGA only gets international flights from pre-clearance destinations, which both major airports in the Bahamas are.

LGA does have a full FIS. It just isn't big enough to practically handle flights that aren't pre-cleared.

Bahamas has been an independent country since 1973. British territories in the Caribbean region are Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands. Also Bermuda which of course isn't in the Caribbean.

LGA has duty free. For example you can buy perfum or liquor etc. from the stores. You pay and they put your purchase in a bag. You have to show your boarding card and show you are flying to Canada for example. A person from the store wheels the purchases out on a cart and meets you at the gate and as you board you take your prepurchased bag. Whether they will do this for your flight I don't know. They do it for all the AC flights.
