Found this posted on Southwest's blog this morning. Some really great footage from MDW in its heydey, with Connies, and various Douglas types, and different airlines past and present. About 4-1/2 minutes, and even without sound, you can easily imagine the sound (and smells) of all those radial engines...

And you can always rent a copy of "North by Northwest" for a few shots of the old terminal.

Ah, yes, just as Cary Grant and Leo Carroll are walking towards their MDW-RAP flight...great flick!

Did you kiddees notice the Delta C&S DC 6?
By the way, nice video. It bought me back to my youth...
I would guess the year was 1954 or 55...No Viscounts or "big"connies.

the TCA northstar was the real giveaway. It might even be 1952. I think TCA got Vicounts in 1953 or so and MDW-YYZ was one of the first routes.

Offhand I'm guessing there are some 1049s in there-- in any case they were always allowed at MDW.

Not with those DC-7s.

Never said they wern't allowed...just stated I did not see any(in the video)
I did take a TW 1049 in 1954...MDW-Idlewild.

That was the beauty of MDW in the 50's.......parking three and four deep 'cause the frrequency was growing
as were the size of the planes. Now we know why the 707's weren't allowed there.....

actually I think I did see a couple of L-1049s. The Eastern connie right after the BN DC-6 scene is one, and it looks like the TWA Connie (you can see half the fuselage) that passes by that DC-6, looks to be a TWA L-1049. You are right though, neither Capitol nor TCA have Viscounts. Maybe the North Central livery helps date the scene? There might be more info on the YouTube page too.
