DL IFE & Emergency Exit Row Selection Questions

Today I purchased a ticket SAN-CVG-TPA-SLC-SAN for travel this June. I am not a frequent flyer with Delta, but the fare was the least expensive.

When it came time to select my seats, one segment allowed me to choose a seat in the emergency exit row. I LOVE this row for the extra legroom, but not being a recognized frequent flyer with a history of choosing this seat before, I was surprised that it allowed me to do so.

Two questions:

1) Has this always been the case for the "ordinary traveller" such as myself who is not a frequent flyer? I know that it is possible to select it at the time of check-in (if it's available), but a schlub like me two and a half months in advance?

2) It was available only on one of the four segments - does that mean it is already reserved? Or might there be a chance to change my seat at the time of check-in?

Throwing this final question in: I am scheduled to fly a 737-800 on both the SAN-CVG and TPA-SLC legs. On my last DL trip, I flew an ex-Song 757 and played the trivia game on the touch-screen TV's. Will the 738's have this set-up? I know the MD88 CVG-TPA won't have it (and NOT a problem!!), but I am scheduled on a 757 SLC-SAN on the return - how many 757's have this set-up?

Thanks for all replies!!

On what aircraft type? It's always been possible on MD-88s.

The 738 might, but it's not guaranteed. Did the equipment show as 737-800 or as "73H" ? The 73H is the 738 with the new TVs + song IFE.

The equipment showed as "737-800", but at least I know IFE is possible.

And that's the segment where it let me select an emergency row seat! I guess that means it's possible on THAT type.

Not true. I've done it on some RJs and widebodies.

But I currently have an itinerary with a leg on a 738 and does not allow me to select an exit row on delta.com (but I still got it...it's good to know people  Wink )

Interesting... I (unfortunately) fly OH a lot, and I've never been able to do it (even as a NW elite).

Seems to be a OH thing. Cus your right, I can't book an exit row on my OH CRJ flight, but I can on my OO CR9 flight. In fact, the row behind the exit rows in the CR9 seem to be blocked.

When you check-in for the flight at the kiosk, you will have the ability to select an exit row if it is available if Medallions have not scooped them all up.

I can always select the exit row on Comair 200s. Not worth it though.
Also, on international flights on the 767-300/ER, the exit rows are not blocked for Medallions. A bit irritating (since they get booked up very quickly), but a Delta policy / overlook for now.

On reconfigured 767-300s (domestic with PTV), the exit rows can be snatched up by non-elite FFers. Drives me nuts, as I've been flying ATL-LAS every 3 weeks so far this year and often find myself on a 767 at least one way - would really like to have the extra legroom on these flights. Really hope DL changes this one.

You should be able to once your NW number is in the reservation. You'll have to call up reservations to do this, but once it's done you should be able to access the premium seats (which includes exit rows).

Thanks so much for the tip! I'm a CO Elite and I'm flying DL on Monday TPA-ATL-MBJ. The exit rows were all booked between TPA and ATL, but I was able to get one between ATL and MBJ, which is the more important longer flight. I never knew you could call up and reserve them in advance like that. With CO, even as a Silver Elite, the only thing I've been able to do online is to wait until 24 hours before departure and hope to be the first one that checks in online at the exact 24 hour mark. By phone, however, I have had some sympathetic agents who have given the seats to me beforehand. I'll definitely try calling DL earlier in the future so I can hopefully be able to reserve them on the other segments.

I asked the agent if I would also be allowed 70 pounds per bag instead of 50, but she said that that was a benefit reserved only for DL Medallion members-is that true or does anyone know if they sometimes let it slide for other Skyteam Elites?

I believe it's a Medallion-only benefit. I know on CO, I do not get any of the extra baggage benefits that CO elites get. Also, when DL implements the fee for a second bag on May 1, Medallions only (not ST Elites/Elite+) will be exempt from this, as they will still get 3 bags/70 lbs each complimentary (domestic first class tickets and any international ticket does not fall into this category).

Can't I now (finally) put my NW number in online? I feel like they've finally fixed this.
