PIA Planning To Launch Gatwick This Year

PIA are seeking launch twice weekly service to LGW from Islamabad and Lahore later this year, they hope to do so in time for peak season rush.

Why? They already have a meaty presence at LHR do they not? Is it purely because they can't get hold of slots for percieved necessary extra frequencies in the summer? I'd have thought any airline that could avoid a LHR/LGW split would want to, at almost any cost!

Almost certainly a slot issue, given that LGW is somewhat less than ideal to serve the Pakistani ethnic market that PIA predominantly serves.

They tried STN not too long ago. How come Gatwick this time? I thought the ethnic market was mainly in North and West London, hence Shaheen planning to use LTN (and STN long term)
