Just seen Richard Quest live from EWR about to fly on Continentals 1st ever LHR flight. Passengers are enjoying free Champagne and snacks at the gate . On arrival Richard Quest will interview CO's CEO .

Good luck to Continental and I hope it goes well for them. CO 4 will also arrive a few hours later from IAH.

The pilots were just interviewed live from the gate and they said they were so happy to fly to LHR as ''Its the Jewel in Europe''. They also said ''It is congested but they are used to that at EWR '' . The flight time of tonight's flight will be under 6 hours !!! There is a very strong tail wind all the way and the flight will be smooth. Good news for the passengers.

Yes deffo did the right thing putting the 777 on it , then again I dont think they could have afforded to put anything but a 777 on such a flagship route . ( as they see it ).

They were already using a 777 to LGW, so it makes sense that LHR will now have the 777 while LGW is only 757's from EWR.

Is CO the first carrier other than AA and UA to now fly to LHR, when do DL, NW and US flights begin.

LGW is getting the 75 from CLE on a seasonal basis and a 764 from IAH as well.

DL is also starting up service though it must not be selling as I could get a seat from LHR to JFK tomorrow and returning the 12th of April for a low sum of 290.30 pounds. Before taxes it is only 116.60 and that is with less then 24 hours purchase. YIKES.

I meant to say EWR-LGW is only 757's, but it didn't come out that way. You are correct though.

I believe they are also today, but CO is the first scheduled arrival.

Regarding the new IAH-LHR service. I flew into IAH this evening just as the Fire Department was spraying BA's 777 first ever departue to Heathrow. I have seen this before for retiring captains, but never to inaugerate new air service. Does anyone have information about this practice?

Water canon salutes can occur for any reason an airline wishes... I presume the airline gets a bill for it though..

...it's 4.23am in the UK, and I'm just heading to work for the first day of ops of CO's new LHR service. I'm meeting the CO28, STA 0730, ETA 0643.

Here's to CO at LHR - may the relationship be long and fruitful!

Looks like most of the flights going to LHR tonight from the us are getting in early. I looked at them and they are all running between 30minutes and over an hour early.

Yes they do it alot. I have been on two flights where they did it for inaugural flights. DUB-PDL with S4 and BFS-AMS with EI. Its a nice thing to do and adds to the atmosphere.
