With all that is happening in the Canadian airline scene, such as the Air Canada/Canadian merger, the C3/Royal merger, and Roots Air, among other things, I really wonder what is going to happen with SkyService. While they are affiliated with Roots Air, the SkyService airline is not too "visible". They have very few aircraft, few routes, etc. The other charter companies surpass it in many ways, such as Royal, C3, and Air Transat.

My question is, does SkyService as we know it stand a chance of survival?

Ok smartypants,

What is it that YOU know that I don't? I'm asking for people's opinions, because as I know it, SkyService plans on continuing to operate as usual, but in my opinion, they have not shown too many signs of growth, or success with their charter airline operation. I don't know how successful their other operations are, such as their Sport Charter, Air Ambulance, etc.

Any POSITIVE feedback would be appreciated.

LOL, Nuno man calm down.....

Skyservice is doing very well....Their FBO operation and Sports charter are always expanding, hence the big grey hangar in front of your building Nuno.....They have a good A/C exchange program with it's partner in Europe where by they take up some extra planes during peak seasons in Canada when the business is slow in Europe....and Roots I really think, if it is what is says it will be, will be a succesful company....SSV has too much captial base bhind it for any other airline to want to take on the burden of buying it up.....But I would expect to see some investment in SSV from which ever alliance it is planning to join up with, then we will see some new planes and added services. They look pretty busy here on weekend mornings...lots of A320's.....

Well, one more person is going to speak on the subject.
CptGomes; It seems you think Sky is destined for failure!
Not so. As Slawko said they have a very healthy relationship with Airtours in Britain for aircraft exchange. Helps for the winter rush in Canada and eases the burden in the Summer. Their loads are excellent, I believe last time I checked YYZ loads are at about 88%; YQT 86% not sure about YXU or YQG. Sunquest & Alba Tours keep them very busy.  Smile
They are adding another A330 to the fleet this summer along with the Roots Aircraft. Their FBO and Charter divisions are also doing very well.
Whats this about all other charters surpassing SV? Their inflight is second to none. Okay the drinks aren't free like on QN but their service on the ground and in the air is much better that the competition.

Go to the website http://www.skyservice.com and see the quote: "The number 1 requested charter airline in Canada" It's true! They sure as hell aren't destined for failure, with the RootsAir inaugural coming up in March the skies the limit.  Wow!

Cheers !

Thanks for the info WG YQT. I've always heard that SkyService had great service, but amidst all the news about everybody else, and watching the others grow, SkyService almost seems to be a static company, without any apparant growth.

That is what prompted me to ask, since I didn't hear anything about them, as opposed to the other companies.

Thanks again.

What does Satic Company mean? I work for Skyservice, and I have worked for other airlines, which I can honestly say do not measure up when it comes to providing the passenger with outstanding in-flight service. Why don't come fly with us sometime and see the difference. Why do you think the airline is called Skyservice? It's all about service and the customer, whom we treat second to none! By the way SSV currently operates with six A-320's daily. Ot A-330 is on loan to Airtours and will return to YYZ in the spring, bringing our fleet of airbuses up to 7 for the charter division.

I don't believe my tone was negative when I was talking about SkyService. In fact I have heard great things about the SkyService customer care, and they have been compared to Wardair, which is of course a great compliment.

By static, I meant, that I at least have not heard as much in terms of news from SkyService as from other airlines, so in effect, in my mind, that means that from the knowledge I have, they have not grown that much. That was the reason for my post, since I was interested in knowing what is in fact happening with SkyService. I was not knocking SkyService ... trust me, you'll know when I'm knocking an airline  Smile

Is there any word on how SkyService and Roots Air might compliment eachother? Or will they be run as totally seperate entities?

Thanks for the info.

Yes inflight crews will be working both the Sky service and roots divisions. I just got hired by the airline yesterday. Thank god, I have been wanting that for years now!! but I hope that roots finds it's niche and does well. but there is news that air canada is up to dirty tricks, we shall see what happens with this new drama!!

Sorry Captaingomes; I re-read my post and it sounded a little harsh. I never meant it to come across that way; I meant come fly with us and check it out! Yes, all current SSV f/a's will be cross trained in the Roots service and will have the opportunity to fly for both the charter and scheduled divisions. I just got my bid package for March and I am bidding for a little of both types of flying. I love the charter flying (it's hard work) but at the end of the day it's worth it. I am anxious to see how I will enjoy the sched. It gives the f/a's and pilots a great variety of flying. All of our schedules are based on a seniority system for bidding, so the more senior you are, the better choices you will get. Also, now is a great time to apply at Skyservice/RootsAir. We are hiring approx. 400 flight attendants, this number will increase by next year. Also pilots, ground staff ect. We have also acquired Canadian's VIP lounge at Terminal 3, so we are hiring for the first class lounge also. An exciting time! Have you visited the websites yet?

Just a question to SSV employees, since the FA's will be cross trained for both airlines...does this mean the flight crews will be as well??? And also will you be issued two separate uniforms?? I have heard that the Roots uniform will be quite unique....is this true?

Thanks for the reply R347216. If all Sky Service employees are as dedicated to the company as you seem to be, that airline and Roots Air will have no trouble flourishing. I have applied at a few airlines for work, and didn't consider Sky Service to be honest. That is an oversight which I intend to correct tomorrow  Smile

Hi Slawko. As you probably already know A-320's/330's and 340's have flight decks that are compatible. The SSV pilots will also fly the RootsAir flights as the aircraft are the same. The cabin for RootsAir will be different than SSV due to the fact that it will have a lot less seats ect. The uniforms are fabulous! When we first heard about RootsAir, we were all a little curious how the uniforms would look and to be honest we were worried that they would be "dressdown at the cottage" looking. The SSV uniform is nice and we did not want to lose the professional look. SSV and Roots met to discuss ideas about the uniforms and Roots designed killer uniforms for us. I can't wait to wear mine. They are very hip, cool and sort of upscale looking. I think I can honestly say we will be one of, or the best dressed F/A's in North America. Ciao for now

Hey Nuno
Definately apply at Sky. With all the hiring right now you've got a good chance at getting on. They are a great company to work for, and the enthusiasm the in-flight crew show tell a lot about the company.
R347213 says it all; EVERYONE is excited about RootsAir. All the Cabin Crews I have talked to can't wait to fly Roots!
347213 you been to YQT?!?  Confused

Cheers!

If you are who I think you are, then...I was just talking about you yesterday. WE can make the arrangements for you and if you let me know, maybe we can get you up on Monday with the positioning crew home. I spoke to crew scheduling about this. If not, I'll see you on Monday and we will discuss it. Ciao for now or e-mail me.
