Midwest Express Airlines to Introduce Nonstop Service Between Kansas City And New Orleans in April

MILWAUKEE, Wis., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Midwest Express Airlines today announced it will introduce two nonstop roundtrip flights each weekday between Kansas City, Mo. and New Orleans on April 23, 2001. One-stop and connecting service will be offered from Milwaukee, and connecting service from other cities served by Midwest Express and Skyway Airlines, The Midwest Express Connection. Additionally, passengers can connect via Kansas City from cities served through a codeshare arrangement with US Airways Express/Air Midwest.

Timothy E. Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer, and other airline representatives will officially launch the new service at a ceremony at Kansas City International Airport prior to the inaugural flight on April 23.

"New Orleans has been a much-requested destination from Midwest Express customers over the years," pointed out Hoeksema. "We're always pleased to extend our premium service to another destination." Known for providing "the best care in the air," Midwest Express has been recognized by Ingram's as Kansas City's preferred airline. The airline has received the magazine's Gold award for best airline the last two years.

Midwest Express recently named Kansas City its third base of operations, and pledged to expand jet service from the city and develop a regional air service network. The airline has served Kansas City since 1989, and with today's announcement will offer nonstop service between Kansas City and nine destinations. It also provides connecting service via Milwaukee to cities throughout the route systems of Midwest Express and Skyway Airlines, as well as connecting service to 14 cities in the northeast U.S. and Canada via a codeshare arrangement with American Eagle and 14 cities in the Midwest via the Air Midwest codeshare. Skyway provides service between Kansas City and Moline, Ill. and Little Rock, Ark.

Midwest Express Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: MEH) is the holding company for Midwest Express Airlines, a premium-service airline headquartered in Milwaukee. Catering primarily to business travelers since taking to the skies in 1984, the airline known as "the best care in the air" has earned its reputation providing passengers with personal attention, two-across wide leather seats, fine food served on china with complimentary wine or champagne, and baked-onboard chocolate chip cookies on luncheon flights -- all at competitive fares. Conde Nast Traveler, Travel+Leisure and the Zagat Airline Survey recognize Midwest Express as the best airline in the United States.

Midwest Express Airlines features primarily nonstop service to major destinations throughout the United States. Astral Aviation, Inc. -- its wholly owned subsidiary -- operates Skyway Airlines, The Midwest Express Connection, which offers connections to Midwest Express as well as point-to-point service between select markets. Together, the airlines fly to 49 cities. More information is available at http://www.midwestexpress.com

Fantastic! It's about time....

Does anyone think it would be a good idea for there to be a code-share between YX and Midway Airlines? THey seem to have a similar service attitude and if you compare the route maps, things mesh together pretty well!

Any possibiliy that Midwest might fly to The carribean, Hawaii or Canada within a few years after getting new aircraft like the 717, 737 or Airbus aircraft to replace the aging DC-9 fleet?

I highly doubt YX will go to the carribean or HAwaii any time soon. They do fly to to Toronto, and someday, we shoud see them venture to the PacNW...but it won't be for a while. As for the fleet, there;s supposed to be an announcement within a month or so...Airbus is the rumored favorite, but unfortunately means switching to 3x2 seating...
