Any Possibility For TG To Pick Up SQ's TPE-LAX?

SQ has just announced to ax Taipei to Los Angeles flights from Oct/1, would there be any possibility for THAI to introduce the service? I remember reading from the threads and news that TG has reconsidered adding a stop-over between their BKK-LAX & BKK-JFK flights, and also expressed the stop-over interest in either Shanghai, Beijing or Taipei...

Anyway, going back to BKK-TPE-LAX, should this be a new flight? Or can it be the extension of TG636/7 (becomes TG796/797)? And what aircraft should TG utilize if this route is relevant?

If I recall correctly, TG inaugurated triweekly service of BKK-TPE-SEA-YYZ on July/16/1988.

I don't think it's a good idea, TG had BKK-TPE-SEA-YYZ in the past, even that didn't work very well. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have another option on the LAX-TPE sector but with CI, BR, and MH having a total of 6 daily flights, let's just leave it there.

IMHO TG should try to explore and negotiate traffic rights with China, LAX, SFO, and YVR can go through PVG or PEK.

I guess the next big thing in Taiwan is eying on the weekend cross-strait flights, and keeps fingers crossed on the regular direct service in the near future. Would China and Taiwan grant foreign carriers the right to fly between the 2? Like BKK-TPE-PVG for TG or SIN-TPE-PEK for SQ?

This is true. We already have 6 nonstop flights to TPE a day. I dont know about most other Angelenos but that works fine for me!  Smile

As far as I am concerned, the TPE-US market is very well served by CI and BR. It would be a tough fight with their multiple dailies when comapred to TG's probably once a day. I suspect this is why SQ could not make that sector perform and to add insult to the injury, yields were hard to come by.

I think TG should stop trying to imitate SQ, and focus on their key strengths.
Their hub is a popular tourist destination, and they have an excellent European network.
Focus on their strengths and stopping trying to do 'me too' things like USA non-stop with A345s!

Imitation - they say, is the greatest form of flattery. In hindsight, I think it was a BIG mistake for TG to let go of the BKK-KIX-LAX when they started the nonstop ULH flights. They should have been operated in tandem with each other. Now that SQ is going full JCL with the 77W-styled JCL Cubicles, what will TG do in response to that? Ooooh I wonder, I wonder... BKK-LAX with 100% JCL Recaro shells?

All of their US flights should be one stop, I thought at one point they tried to negotiate BKK-PEK-SFO. Nonetheless, I think they should reorganize the flights like this, BKK-KIX-LAX (BR just grabbed that routes, maybe another, but KIX can sustain another daily flight), BKK-PVG-SFO, BKK-PEK-JFK. This will be the ideal outcomes, obviously it's not easy for China to grant such traffic rights.

That is true. No matter how people react to say that the timings are absurd and all, many carriers are surely jealous of this. And that too a scissors hub in the formation!
